LII WATCHES: Justice League & Justice League Unlimited [MASTERPOST]
If you were like me as a kid in the 90's, you probably caught superhero cartoons every day after school. For me, my favorites were Spider-man the Animated Series and Sailor Moon. But then again, I'm a Marvel girl and a diehard Moonie.
However, there were two DC shows that did manage to redefine an entire generation's view of the DC universe in less than a decade. First, there was Batman: the Animated Series, produced by showrunner Bruce Timm and his team. Then, there was Superman: the Animated Series, made by the same team. After a few seasons of each show, a crossover, called "the World's Finest" was done. Superman and Batman shared the small screen and made a formidable fighting team. But when the world needed the DC's equivalent of the Avengers - a.k.a. when evil Martians attempted to take over the world, it was time for the Justice League to form.
Once again, the team that brought us Batman and Superman, helmed once again by Bruce Timm, presented Justice League. Our heroes Batman and Superman were joined by Wonder Woman, the second Flash, the Martian Manhunter, John Stewart as the Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl. What followed that first fateful encounter would last five seasons and 91 episodes. Highly acclaimed and beloved by DCAU fans, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited is what cemented DC's dominance in the animation field. To this day, many a casual fan will report that their knowledge of the DCU comes from initial exposure to this show. And, since I love superheroes and all and Wonder Woman is my second-favorite lady hero, I figured I might as well edumacate myself on the DCU via this nice jumping-on point. So, eventually, I plan on working my way through with many moments of hilarity and weeping because Wonder Woman still doesn't have a movie and hasn't had a TV show since the 70's. Yay!
