Ian's Quilt

Took apart Ian's quilt today... I gave myself a couple months before I really did much to it. Quilts are supposed to be put together with love and friendship, not taken apart when their almost done.

Last September my mom and I picked out the fabric and design for my friend Crystal's baby (and one for her too) and I started putting it together, in hopes that with all the busy stuff going on I might be able to get it completed by the time I went to Georgia this summer.  We spent hours talking about the design, debating on how to arrange it and what colours to use, spreading the squares out on the picnic table to see how it would look....

By March, it was all done except for the binding and quilting... piecing complete, I was going to have mom help me with the binding and she was going to do the quilting.

What does one do with a quilt like this... I have been trying to figure it out for weeks...

So, I took the  bulk of the Ian's apart and am making two small wall quilts out of it. One for Crys, one for my Lisae...

The rest of of the quilt and it's pieces (there were enough left over that I had decided to make a queen size quilt for Crys & Brendan-- I'm going to make something else now, instead) are going to be made into small quilts for donation to Crawford-Long, the hospital that Ian was at.  At least I think that's what we're doing. I"m focusing on the first three from the original quilt and go from there.

Some friends here are going to help me make the rest.

A quilt that is made with love should always go to someone. Sometimes you just have to be creative about it.
