First of all thank you to everyone who expressed birthday wishes last Friday or thereabouts. I was on vacation at the time and had little to no internet access, and have been scrambling to catch up at work since I got home Tuesday night, so I'm grievously behind on my LJing. You're all a wonderful bunch of people, and I'm lucky to know you.
My vacation involved a wonderful time spent with some surpassingly awesome friends (
duncandahusky,
takaza,
roho,
genet,
mirkowuff,
aeto, and
frysco) in the
North Cascades of the Pacific Northwest, much good food, action, adventure, beer, snow in August, messing around in boats, and about 150 pictures. I'll be sorting through these this weekend and trying to do the trip justice with something approaching a coherent account by Monday. I'd be lying if I said I haven't been daydreaming about finding a way to move there since we've gotten back, but I'm doing my best to focus on ways to lead a more joyful and fulfilling life without moving to Washington and becoming a river rafting guide.
On an unrelated note, I'm sure that everybody's heard by now that John Hughes died the other day. I guess was born almost exactly at the right time for his films, as they pretty much hit the sweet spot for my angsty teenagerdom as each of them came out, but I like to think there's a timelessness to his better ones. I think a film night of a couple of his better films is in order. Anyone up for one?
