Despite the fact that I have had three hours of sleep, these past (less than) 24 hours have been great.
My emotionally disturbed students at St. Joseph's Villa have been enjoying working with clay. Even though there was some conflicts with two of the students, it was generally a good day. One of my favorite students, Brian, will be finishing his last week at St. Joseph's this week. I think he will be incorporated into a normal school. He is incredibly talented and generally a very good student. In his paintings and drawings, he likes to draw bridges and paths, which, to me, seem like symbols of his progression as a student with special needs. I will miss him.
Sacrosanct was so much fun. It was a "Nightmare before Halloween" costume party. I was a zombieninjapirate. It was interesting to see who figured out that it was me under the costume.
Holly and I doing our best zombie impressions.
Close-up of Zombie Holly. Donnie as a country hick.
Phil and Brandon (as Dread Pirate Roberts) Patrick and Russ (as God's Gift to Women)
Alex on the left, Will (Rat Bastard) on the right. Holly surprised by the conga line of zombies! OMGWTFZOMBIES!
Holly came with me. I was impressed with the make-up job to make her look zombified in like under an hour. The music was good, the costumes were great. I think I have convinced Holly to come out with me on Monday nights. She seemed to connect with Donnie a lot. They are similar in a lot of ways. The strangest thing that happened was a coincidential thing: I had a hunch that when I went back into the "guts" of the Rocks that one of the DJs would play Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party". I wasn't in the room for more than a minute when they played it. So weird! It's like ESP or something. Afterwords, Donnie, Holly, and I had breakfast at 3rd Street, where we were served by Holly.
I had my critique for my photo series just now, which turned out a lot better than I thought. I was expecting people to tear myself apart, but they were really impressed with the work so far. I was just encouraged to take more images and change the backgrounds digitally.
Since I got the costume and candy aspect of Halloween out of the way last night, I will probably do a prayer/mini-ritual for Samhain, the day of remembering those who have died not in sadness but in joy. Death is just as essential as life in the circle of things. Then some homework, maybe DDR, maybe "Bleach" with Rika. Maybe sleep...o.O
