“Tsk! What are those idiots doing?!” cursed Chalk to herself as she tapped her wrist, “This is Angel six to base, contact lost with Angels two and three. Moving to position Z12, Y7 to fill the gap. Permission to deploy Type 3.”

“Roger that Angel six, new position confirmed. Current situation deems Type 3 to be dangerous, deployment of Type 2 approved. Transfer systems open and charged,” came a reply a moment later over her headset.

“Type 2....honestly!”

Chalk looked ahead, the fire was spreading. What had started as a simple blaze in the internal guidance room had now spread to twelve levels of the International Space Needle. If they didn't get it under control now the tether lines were in danger of surpassing their safe limits. If they broke the Needle would loose its connection with the orbital ring and that could have dire consequences.

In all her years in the service this was the most hazardous one she had yet faced. She had to stop the fires progress right now.

“Register command, deploy flight wings and prepare for aerial firing mode,” she said quickly.

“Confirmed!” chimed a computer voice.

In the air in front of her a series of readouts appeared with flashing numbers.

“Gyro's stabilised...flight wings deployed,” stated the computer.

Behind Chalk the large set of flight wings gave a crack and swung upwards, the full mechanism of her suit changing as it shifted from ground to air based mode. Bending her knees she kicked backwards as her flight wings roared into life. In the air it was quite a sight to behold. The bold outline of the suit and wings only added to the reason for its name, Angel.

“Set for transfer system link up, deploy Type 2 Compression Launcher and load proximity trigger foam projectiles. Come about 30 degrees and set co-ordinates. Target bearing 003 mark 4, correct for wind velocity. Transfer!” called Chalk sharply.

“Transfer initiated.”

Chalk swiftly lifted her right arm. The bulky metal gauntlet that covered most of her arm shimmered and then flashed. The air around her started to sparkle and then converged on her arm. A split second later a bigger flash lit up the sky and when it cleared Chalk's arm was encased in a new item. Easily ten meters long and half a meter wide the launcher looked more like a giant cannon than something the fire service would use.

Looking ahead the see through head up display started to flash as red target cursors lit up across the screen.

“Steady...” whispered Chalk to herself as she waited.

The wind was strong. She brought her left arm up to grab a handle on the side of the launcher. The final cursor had turned red now but still she didn't fire. She took a breath, held it, blinked...now! Pressing the trigger would have sent her spinning over backwards had it not been for the internal gyro keeping her steady. The launcher rapidly sent four large missile like projectiles screaming towards the Needle. Her aim had been near perfect.

Striking the tower just below the main portion of the fire the projectiles detonated just before impact. Almost instantly a thick foam spread over the area coating the entire area in a thick fire prevention foam.

“This is Angel Six, deployment successful. Moving in to combat in mode two.”

“Roger!”
