Magical Girls Are Always Awesome
So I finally came up with designs for a magical girl team to fit in the new manga story I’ve been tinkering with. Their little outfits started out more traditional fantasy and then ended up like this because I find Native American spirituality wonderful and also that it is underdone when it comes to things that reference it. So I thought that could be a cool basis for the magical powers. The plot is still basically something I wrote a while ago, except obviously with this magical girl element added in, as well as some other twists here and there. I also decided the main character would be a male character since that’s something else you don’t see much in magical girl manga… not that he’d be a damsel in distress, but instead of a girl saddled with problems that need to be resolved, I thought it would be cooler if that role ended up with a male. (Okay, so also maybe I wanted to find a way to incorporate my boyfriend into the story - nevermind!!) Sounds dumb, but except for the characters whose looks were kind of based on people I already know, coming up with a collection of faces that look good together was tough! I don’t know how Naoko Tekeuchi came up with ten! Anyway, hope you like this first pin up piece. I think I’ll make some more art to maybe sell at Otakon!
