In which I have feelings.

I literally did not sleep last night, which means I am almost totally unselfconscious about posting here. Hooray?

So, my life. The only good parts happen via television. I finally started the fifth season of Babylon 5, having recovered from Deconstruction of Falling Stars, which completely broke me. (Seriously, I am in no way an optimist, but why ( Read more... )

what is my life

I have the first two A Song of Ice and Fire books. ...I should get on that. Fifth one comes out this summer, no?

Yup! In July, FINALLY. They're decent books, but I will warn you that they're very bleak.

Also please don't hate Sansa she's my girl and I just want to take care of her and protect her and essentially mother her forever omg.

Bah I don't want depressing books! I have the freaking Star Wars EU for that.

Haha, I'll keep that in mind for whenever I read them. Do lots of people not like her or something?

Yeah, as far as I can tell she's one of the most hated characters in the series. And I don't like to generalize, but the vast majority of dislike that I've seen on le interwebs is rooted in misogyny. She likes dresses and boys and doesn't eschew femininity or swordfight like her sister and is therefore weak and dumb and stupid. Nevermind that she's twelve years old. How dare she be a dreamer and not want to be a boy.

If you couldn't tell, I have a lot of ~feelings about this, lol.

...So we're going to hate her solely because she's a normal twelve-year-old girl? The fuck?

Also whiny! I can't believe I forgot whiny. God forbid she react normally to some damn trauma. When girls feel things, it's just because they're ~emo.

I try to stick to the female-dominated areas of fandom; they're not immune to it, of course, but at least I'm not alone in my Sansa love. The fanboys in this fandom are pretty vile.

Also complete lol at the hatred of Sansa for her ~whinyness and yet total worship of Jon. He is like a billion times more emo. Genuinely emo.

Oh well that just sucks. And your mentioning of fanboys threw me for a loop because I'm so used to just flailing with other girls over things, haha! Although I say I like fantasy, I've never really read a true fantasy novel, so I kinda forgot that guys like that sort of thing, too. Whoops.

Yep, this one's a pretty male-oriented fandom. Not quite as much on LJ, fortunately, at least that I've seen. But who knows, I don't see much.

Heh! I was going to say that this and LotR were the only ones I've read, but there's actually a lot of YA fantasy that I absolutely adore. Most of the non-YA I randomly pick up turns out to be an excuse for porn but with wizards!

Ah, LOTR. Gotta do that, too. Tried reading The Hobbit in fifth grade, but even with my high reading level, I didn't have the attention span for it.

See, I've read plenty of YA fantasy. I think. I can only remember Bruce Coville at the moment.

Haha. I actually found the Hobbit to be a much easier/more fun read (I like it much better than LotR). LotR can be tedious, but it also has Eowyn. ♥

I don't even remember The Hobbit, man. What I know of LOTR comes from what I've seen of the movies. Which isn't too much because we only own the extended versions and I can't muster up the energy to watch three 3-hour movies. But I remember Eowyn being cool.

I know what you mean about the movies! I liked them when I saw them in theaters, but my brother also owns the extended cuts and is always begging me to watch them with him. I can't manage without hanging on a computer and occasionally glancing up at the screen.

But Eowyn is like, amazing. And occasionally I skip to John Noble's scenes for the lulz.

I think I watched the tv airing of The Two Towers once when on a road trip. I'm pretty sure I've seen MOST of the normal edits, but definitely not all of the extended.

Haha, I need to see them if only for John Noble.
