Books in Other Languages

I am looking for the titles and/or authors of "classic" works of literature in any and all languages. The kind of stuff they make you read in lit classes and say is good for you.

Some examples in English are the plays by William Shakespeare; novels by Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Toni Morison; poems by John Keats, Percy Shelly, Lord Byron; etc. (Others I can think of: in French, would be the stories by Jules Verne, and in Greek would be the works of Homer or Virgil.)

The main character in my novel speaks a bunch of languages and loves to read. It's set in a science-fiction future, so she has access to pretty much anything that's been written. She likes fiction especially, but does read non-fiction. For further background, she's the captain of a military spaceship called Telemachus, as well as the science officer, and she also dances ballet.

I would especially love some titles in French, Japanese, and Arabic, but all languages would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: thanks, everyone! There are some great works of literature on my character's reading list now!

books, fun
