So it's funny, I was just reading Natalie's update, and mine kinda sounds the same!!! HAHA. I am moving to Toledo in the winter, maybe summer, I haven't decided yet. But I am moving there to go to school.. at Statzenberger, to be a vet tech. Isn't it funny that Nat and I barely see each other any more, but yet we both want to go to school to do the same thing? Anyways, I am all signed up for classes. I can't start until the winter, because the way the programs set up. You are supposed to take all the pre-req's the first and second semester. However, I already have all of those out of the way, so looks like I get to take a semester off :-D In the winter I only have to take one class, b/c it's the only pre-req I need. That's why I haven't decided for sure when I want to move down there, because I just started a new job.
My new job is at the Manchester Veterinary Clinic, as a vet assistant. I absolutely love it, but I realize it is going to take some getting used to and I need to grow thicker skin. The first day I was there we euthanized 2 dogs. It was really hard, because I wasn't expecting it on the first day. I had to hold them down and roll the vein while they injected them and they slowly fell asleep in my arms.
The second day was a 10 hour shift, ended up working 11. I came home with scratches all over my arms from trying to hold dogs and cats down while the vet looked them over, gave shots, cleaned ears out, drew blood, and many other things. At the vet I work for they have a table that lowers and highers. When the animal comes in they have it lowered, and they put them on it, and I hold them as they higher it and as they do their thing with the animal. This isn't exactly easy, as I think with them being far off the ground it scares them more.
The third day I helped prepare a surgery and then watched. They told me I had better sit down because they've had many people faint when watching their first surgery. Once again it was not what I expected on my first week. It was a spay surgery and they said it's not usually the one they choose for a persons first surgery to watch, because they are generally really bloody, but they did anyways.
I didn't get to watch the whole thing because I had a assist in an emergency, where the people's dog picked their kitten up by mouth and shook it several times. Well the kitten was so bad off they ended up having to put it down. I, once again, had to hold this poor kitten down as it slowly went to sleep. I think this was the hardest part because the kitten was no more than 8 weeks old and barely got to live. It was sad and I tried not to think about it too much because I had to move on with my day.
It's really cool though because I am getting trained by an awesome vet tech, named Judy. She went to the same school I'm going to go to, and she knows what I want to do. Therefore, she shows me all the stuff she does, so I know what to look forward to. I have SO MUCH to learn!! The vets are really nice. They are a married couple that are both have a good sense of humor. I've made many mistakes and they have yet to get mad at me, so I'm lucky. They still say I am doing great and a fast learner. :)
Anyways, as far as my life goes, not much has changed. Ian's grandma had emergency surgery, and ended up getting her colon removed and all that, and his mom also just got surgery 2 days ago, a hysterectomy. So, needless to say I haven't seen much of him and have spent quite a few hours in the hospital with him. We're going good otherwise, getting along for the most part. He's moving w/me to Toledo, so I'm excited for that. Finally get to get away from family. Like Nat said, our 2 year anniversary is in 2 days now! WOW!
Lilly's doing good. Possibly the best dog I'll ever have, I must say. She listens so good and is always there for some loving when you need it. Just seeing how horrible some of these dogs behave at the vet makes me thankful for her! I want to get another puppy so bad, but I don't want to go through the puppy stage again! It is a lot of work!!!
Hmm.. this is quite long. Oh yeah one more thing, I get to go get a new cell phone today!! I am finally getting rid of my shitty t-mobile, and I'm getting Verizon. I finally have enough credit for it!! YAY!
