Sam and I have moved, and boy was it an exhausting experience! I don't remember moving into our old apartment being so tiresome. I think we accumulated a lot of junk over the past 9 months. And there were wedding presents. So... I guess that makes sense. My parents are planning on having a yard sale again sometime soon (since they'll be moving too), so I'm hoping to find some time this weekend during all the unpacking to sort through everything and figure out what can stay and what I can sell. If they don't have their yard sale soon, maybe I'll ask if I can borrow their yard to host my own sale...
Our new apartment is HUGE!! 850 square feet, to be exact. It's cheaper than our old apartment too, so I think we really lucked out. We have a lot of unpacking and sorting to do over the next few days, and we have to get some new furniture, but I'm reasonably confident we can get our place to be at least presentable by the end of the weekend. We need a new computer table (ours broke during the move, due to its crappiness), another bookcase (for DVDs, actually), and a new TV stand (more DVD storage and to accomodate a possible bigger TV in the near future). Depending on the cost, we'll probably have to buy the computer table this weekend and the other stuff early next month. My paydays are spaced funny this month...
Sam and I are coming up with new projects for our apartment too. We have a rather large, enclosed patio, so we want to start up a small garden. I want to plant things to cook and eat, like mint, raspberries, strawberries, oregano, basil, and thyme. Maybe some mini roses or flowering plants. I did a little research, and these seem to be dog-friendly too, so if Powder wanders around the patio and gets too curious, she won't eat something toxic. (She's never eaten anything in my mom's garden, but you can never be too careful.) I'd also like to elevate the plants, so she can't really get to them. And I want to put a smallish table out there for messy craft projects and possible get-togethers. (Painting work-surface by day, serves chips and margaritas by night!) I'm excited! Too bad I won't have the money for this right away. I must remind myself: Patience. Patience.
My older brother Mark will be moving in with us for a few weeks. Renovations are in full swing at my parents' house, so my brother needs a place to stay rent-free until he finds a new job. It'll be weird. Sam and I are used to being alone together. (Sam's lamenting that he won't be able to walk around in his underwear. He's shy. lol.) But even though it'll take some getting used to, I'm looking forward to Mark moving in for a while. I think it'll be fun. Sam will have someone new to bounce ideas off of, and I'll have someone to play video games with. (Though, I will have to refrain from finally beating Kingdom Hearts 2 when Mark's around...) I think it'll be a good experience for us, at the very least.
Over all, I feel pretty good about this move. I really like our new apartment, despite the fact that it wasn't "cable ready" like they said (I missed an ep of Dragon Zakura!), the linen closet leaks when the people upstairs take a shower, and I killed a couple bugs that may or may not have been small roaches (I've never seen a real one before). But the cable guy is coming today to hook us up (homie), the maintenance guy is fixing the leak, and somebody's gonna come by soon to spray for bugs. I think Powder can move in once we've aired out the kitchen for a few days, and then it'll be a great home for me and Sam.
