It's a wonder anybody gets decent healthcare at all in this country. I hate my medical insurance. The person who invented the HMO system should be shot. And then taken to a hospital where they won't accept his insurance because his primary care provider isn't there to sign off on it. Bastard.
So, I had an outbreak of really disgusting rashiness yesterday. It had been getting better, but then it got horribly worse. It hurt like hell and was gross beyond grossness. So I called in sick and went to the doctor, who is supposed to be my primary care provider now, after much bureaucratic red tape. I pay the copay, get a prescription for some steroid cream, and a promise of a dermatologist referral. Except I get a phone call this morning that they're not actually my primary care provider yet, cuz they didn't realize it's not effective until July 1. Which means they're sending me a bill for yesterday's visit and waiting to submit my referral request until next Monday. Incompetent bastards.
Are all work-provided medical insurances like this? I like not paying for my insurance, but I feel like I got the cheap crap that employers who don't give a shit about their employees give out. Which, if that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised. And it's especially useless if I have to pay for my health care anyway. And how are you supposed to know if a doctor is good? I kinda just picked this place at random cuz my stupid insurance company originally assigned me a pediatrician (*roll eyes*). But if I had known what the hell I was doing, maybe I would have picked someplace better. They should have a website where you write reviews about doctors. Like Amazon.com reviews, only about how good an experience with this doctor or that medical group. Do they have websites like that?
Arg... Better go to lunch...
