Oh, you should totally read the Percy Jackson books. Much, much cooler than the film. I'm currently reading book 2 and it's a lot of fun. They changed so many things from the first book - it's incredible. I was going "Lol, what?" all the time during the movie. Everything is way more complicated, there's way more to the story and the characters - also, the kids are actually 11 years old in the first book :D

About the hard-wired for ancient Greek thing... well. It doesn't make a lot more sense in the books. Not being able to learn another language is not the point though. He speaks English perfectly well after all - in that universe the heroes' brains are just hard-wired for the Greek alphabet, so they have trouble with the Latin one. They can read, but it takes a while, because they're dyslexic. Whatever *lol*

As for the casino: It wasn't an actual real casino, but a place the Lotophagi took residence to lure people in. I guess they don't care much about their victims' age *lol*

:D i think i need to go to the bookshop tomorrow^^

11????? LOL

oh, so ALL the demigods are dyslexic? hmm...
btw, that teacher in the wheelchair (chiron?).. what does he teach? (i would google it but i don't want to be spoiled about too many things because i know i'll read the books now)

I guess they don't care much about their victims' age *lol*
hmm, guess that makes sense :P
i get that no one inside cares but i would've thought that someone might've prevented them from going inside in the first place... but maybe the whole of las vegas is under soe kindof "spell"?

do the books explain why percy's mother has such knowledge about things? (in the back of my mind i somehow think the gods are forbidden to tell mortals.. but maybe i'm confusing things..)

You should totally get the books. The US editions are ridiculously cheap, too!

Yeah, all of them or most of them were diagnosed to with dyslexia and ADHD, but in the end it's just their heritage showing.

Uhm, I think Chiron aka Mr Brunner was Percy's Latin teacher *scratches head*

Well, sloppy movie writing, I guess. According to the kids' age in the books the whole thing is a bit different, too. There's no casino, but an amusement arcade with a lot of video games and other stuff.

In the books Percy's Mom does know about the whole "Greek gods are real" thing, because she knew who Poseidon was and that she had to protect Percy. But since the plot is much different and more complicated in the book, she isn't the one to guide the kids to the Olympus, I can tell you this much.

right, i'll definitely get the books tomorrow Oo sounds like they're much better than the movie/make more sense :P

Uhm, I think Chiron aka Mr Brunner was Percy's Latin teacher *scratches head*
but why does he teach stuff about ancient greece then? (also, does that mean that he doesn't have a problem reading the latin alphabet? because he's a centaur(? i think) and the dyslexia problem is specific for demigods and doesn't appear in other creatures from that period?) lol i'm probably thinking way too much about this ... ^^

I didn't take Latin in school, but I think my classmates learned some stuff about Greek mythology... ah, well, it's basically the same as the Roman anyway *lol* There isn't much about it in the book, but when you're at a museum with a lot of ancient stuff in it, I guess you can't ignore the Greek exhibits just because you're a Latin teacher *lol*

Heh, good question! I don't know how good centaurs (or gods) are with the Latin alphabet. Maybe he just had enough practice, he's been around for some time *g* Maybe the the dyslexia thing is caused by the mixed heritage? And gods (or other immortals) being much more powerful and basically kind of magical creatures don't have the problem that their brains go "CANNOT COMPUTE!!!" once in a while?

i took latin and i can't remember learning about the greek stuff... but then there are many thing i don't remember from my school days (as most of it was a complete waste of time *g*)

i just found it odd that he asked kinda very specific questions and expected everyone to know the answers, indicating that they had talked about in in class in great depth.. (but maybe i'm focusing on the wrong details/interpret things in a a wrong way and shouldn't take everything too seriously.. :P)

hmm, ok.. maybe it's the mixture. and magic! magic is the answer to everything XD

really looking forward to reading the books now

There are too many things in the movie to nitpick about. It's all very rushed and simplified and some things are just sloppy. I guess you'd better hold off on the overthinking until after reading the books :D

Yay, can't wait to read what you think of them! I don't know anyone else who's read them!
