Still haven't seen Sherlock Holmes, but that Holmes is a Vulcan thing is epic. I'll have to share that with Matt next time I see him, I'm sure he'll appreciate it XD

Haven't seen Percy Jackson either, we were going to but just missed the last showing so Yas and I went to see The Wolfman instead. I saw one of the books in the library and it caught my eye, but also seemed oddly familiar to the Mad Myth books I used to read in junior school.

Haven't seen Men Who Stare At Goats myself, but that's because several people who have seen it told me all the funny bits are shown in the trailer so I shouldn't waste the time/money.

i think i've never heard about those before. from what i just googled they sound more fun and not that dead serious.

hmm... i guess i'll wait until more people have seen it then and ask their opinion before spending my money on it :)

from what i just googled they sound more fun and not that dead serious Yeah, they were a bit silly; but I loved Ancient Greece as a kid - still do a bit - so I really enjoyed them. Perce was my favorite character, I find it funny that kids books don't have a problem presenting strong, independant female characters when its such an issue in mature media.

i guess i'll wait until more people have seen it then and ask their opinion before spending my money on it I'm a bit of a cynic, so that's my usual approach XD

yes, i find it rather annoying to see how the attitude in portraying female characters changes with the age of the target group :/ that's one reason why i enjoy reading fantasy books, which often don't bow down to the mature media mainstream.

Oh, you should totally read the Percy Jackson books. Much, much cooler than the film. I'm currently reading book 2 and it's a lot of fun. They changed so many things from the first book - it's incredible. I was going "Lol, what?" all the time during the movie. Everything is way more complicated, there's way more to the story and the characters - also, the kids are actually 11 years old in the first book :D

About the hard-wired for ancient Greek thing... well. It doesn't make a lot more sense in the books. Not being able to learn another language is not the point though. He speaks English perfectly well after all - in that universe the heroes' brains are just hard-wired for the Greek alphabet, so they have trouble with the Latin one. They can read, but it takes a while, because they're dyslexic. Whatever *lol*

As for the casino: It wasn't an actual real casino, but a place the Lotophagi took residence to lure people in. I guess they don't care much about their victims' age *lol*

:D i think i need to go to the bookshop tomorrow^^

11????? LOL

oh, so ALL the demigods are dyslexic? hmm...
btw, that teacher in the wheelchair (chiron?).. what does he teach? (i would google it but i don't want to be spoiled about too many things because i know i'll read the books now)

I guess they don't care much about their victims' age *lol*
hmm, guess that makes sense :P
i get that no one inside cares but i would've thought that someone might've prevented them from going inside in the first place... but maybe the whole of las vegas is under soe kindof "spell"?

do the books explain why percy's mother has such knowledge about things? (in the back of my mind i somehow think the gods are forbidden to tell mortals.. but maybe i'm confusing things..)

You should totally get the books. The US editions are ridiculously cheap, too!

Yeah, all of them or most of them were diagnosed to with dyslexia and ADHD, but in the end it's just their heritage showing.

Uhm, I think Chiron aka Mr Brunner was Percy's Latin teacher *scratches head*

Well, sloppy movie writing, I guess. According to the kids' age in the books the whole thing is a bit different, too. There's no casino, but an amusement arcade with a lot of video games and other stuff.

In the books Percy's Mom does know about the whole "Greek gods are real" thing, because she knew who Poseidon was and that she had to protect Percy. But since the plot is much different and more complicated in the book, she isn't the one to guide the kids to the Olympus, I can tell you this much.

right, i'll definitely get the books tomorrow Oo sounds like they're much better than the movie/make more sense :P

but why does he teach stuff about ancient greece then? (also, does that mean that he doesn't have a problem reading the latin alphabet? because he's a centaur(? i think) and the dyslexia problem is specific for demigods and doesn't appear in other creatures from that period?) lol i'm probably thinking way too much about this ... ^^
