The next morning, Heechul woke up by being lightly shaken by Dongho. The sunlight pierced his eyes and he rubbed them with one hand while trying to free himself from the bear pelt with his other.
“You want some breakfast?” asked Dongho. “There’s nothing much though but I think we’ll reach Santaville today and then we can buy some more food.”
Heechul gladly accepted the food Dongho offered him and they ate together in silence. After finishing their small meal, Dongho glanced at the other and said:
“You might want to borrow some clothes from me if we’re going outside. It’s pretty cold and your clothes are not exactly fit for this weather.”
Heechul looked down at his body and couldn’t help but agree with the other’s words. Seeing the clothes he was wearing he was thankful for the warm pelt and he recalled a faint memory of being inside with the other members before he woke up here. After putting on the clothes Dongho lent him, though, he reminded himself of buying a Canada Goose jacket to wear 24/7 even when inside, in case he would end up in a situation like this again.
“Well…” Dongho said, and one could hear the restrained laughter in his voice, “at least you won’t be cold…”
“Very funny,” Heechul said and made a face at him. “I know I look like an idiot so you don’t have to rub it in.”
After all, Dongho was an elf and both the pants and the jacket he had given Heechul were at least 10 cm too short on the sleeves and legs.
In addition, the sweater he was wearing underneath embraced his torso all too tightly and he felt like he might as well have worn a banana hammock, as stupid as he felt.
These clothes were much warmer than a mankini, though, and when the two of them headed out of the stable he barely noticed the cold. Dongho led the way and soon they walked side by side on a small road, surrounded on both sides by snow covered fields. Here and there were small cottages and every now and then they encountered other elves who looked at Heechul with either curiosity as he was much taller than everyone else, or great joy seeing the way he was dressed. Heechul himself ignored the amused stares and pretended he was walking on a fashion runway instead of a snowy road.
After a couple of hours, they stopped at a small inn and Dongho bought them lunch.
“Don’t worry, we’ll solve that later,” he said when a blushing Heechul explained that he didn’t have any money.
When they were finished, they continued their journey and just when dark began to fall, they finally spotted the lights of Santaville.
“Where do we sleep tonight?” Heechul wondered as they entered the streets of the North Pole’s capital.
“An old friend of my father lives nearby; I don’t think he will mind us staying overnight. I just hope I remember the way…oh wait, it should be over here!”
With Dongho in the lead, they crossed a small courtyard and Heechul waited a couple of meters away while the elf knocked on the door to one of the houses. They didn’t want to shock anyone with the fact that a human had appeared out of nowhere. Dongho’s explanation seemed to be accepted though, because he turned around and waved eagerly at Heechul to come there.
“It’s okay; we can stay!”
Heechul walked closer, but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the person who had opened the door.
“Oh, by the way, let me introduce you to the daughter of my father’s old friend. Heechul, this is Jessica.”
“Gwfsjgk,” was all Heechul could say. Right there, only a few meters in front of him, stood the prettiest girl he’d ever seen.
