I've come to this shocking conclusion. I was raised in a Christian home where the idea was that if spoke aloud speaking in faith that you wanted/need something badly, you would get it. I've come to realize that that is not the way it works.
How does it work? You are not promised health, wealth, well-being, a happy life, happiness, etc.
You are promised that if you accept Christ as your saviour, ask forgiveness of sins that you will be saved and given a place in heaven, because the only way to God is through Christ the son.
You are promised that nothing can separate you from the love of God. You may not feel his presence, may not think he hears or cares, but he cares, he loves you.
The bible says to take the yoke of the Lord, it is light and that God will not give you more than you handle, and that he will give you strength for whatever you need to do.
He wants you to be ready to do what he wants you to do, he wants you to be a tool to help and make a difference in some way to others.
The bible does say that you should pray about everything. Why? Because you get not because you ask not. Whatever you ask if it's in God's will you will get. If evil people know how to give good things to their children how much more will the Lord give to his children. If his child ask for food he will not give them a stone. If they ask for something else he will not give them a snake. He want's us to prosper but that I think means spiritually mostly.
God wants to give us good things and he will not forsake us and he cares deeply about us but he doesn't guarantee happiness, health, wealth, etc. And we have to be ready for that and willing.
There's a song called Stand that I like. It basically said that in the times when you've done all you can do, just stand. It reminds me of the verse about being still and knowing that God is God. Whatever happens we need to take one day at a time because tomorrow has enough worries of it's own. We need to be content with what we have. We need to know that primarily God wants us to grow spiritually so that we can stand on our own and not need anything. Self sufficiency, like a child growing into an adult? Spiritual growth is of primary importance because the physical world is not permanent, it's just a corrupted version of what the Lord had in mind and it will eventually fade away. But he cares deeply about us, would prefer us to be happy, healthy, wealthy, but does not make any promises because ALL THINGS work together for the good of those that love the Lord. That means he's looking at the big picture, not just you or me.
So, I'm trying to pray more and not just ask. Talk to the Lord about my frustrations, my wants, concerns but trying to take things one day at a time and not be fearful because he hasn't given us the spirit of fear. We're not to be fearful, but trust in the Lord and lean not on our own understanding.
So I'm trying to do that. I've prayed to win the library but I now know that that's probably not the best for my spiritual growth. Darn.
