I always like having eventful weeks. Well, I like them if the events are fun. And for the most part for this past week, they were, so hooray.
Wednesday, I was supposed to go see Rent with Figleaf, but he wasn't feeling well, so we just watched Finding Nemo instead. Spoiler: they found him. Of course, this means I still haven't seen Rent. I am so getting kicked out of the Queer Club. Shame. One more straight person converted, and I get a toaster.
Thursday was Euchre Night over at
the_4th_man's place. He very kindly burned some CDs for me, so I'll be awash in new music for a good, long while. Yay! I didn't seem to have a mediocre hand all night. They were either spectacularly good (two loner hands!) or spectacularly bad. Add in some Blackthorn pizza and homemade porn discovered on a computer that
the_4th_man had salvaged, and it was a peach of an evening.
Friday was my lab's Christmas party, which I was dreading a bit. This year, it was bowling at Tropicana. No outside people allowed; just people who work at the lab. Because I don't see enough of them. It actually worked out better than I thought, though. I bowled a couple games (poorly - I haven't bowled in a while and it showed), ate some of those cocktail weenies that I love dearly, and was the only person secure enough in his masculinity to kick it at Dance Dance Revolution in the game room. Whew. Screw the gym. Just playing that game a few times a week would be all the exercise I ever need. After the company party, I went home to prepare for another one. Timiffany's poker party was Friday night. I played a few hands (poorly - I haven't played Texas Hold 'Em in a while and it showed), got knocked out of the game by
spacey_grl, and went into the kitchen to drink. A few people were trying their hands at making interesting shots, and I was a willing guinea pig. By the time Figleaf showed up at the party, I was drunk, so I'm afraid I was not the social link I was hoping to be (I think I'll cover social links in a future Odd Social Convention of the Day). After some more drinking and mingling, we went back to Figleaf's (who luckily lives only about three blocks from Timiffany), and all romantic aspirations were thrown out the window as I gratefully passed out.
Saturday, I spent the morning lazing around with Figleaf, then went home to get ready for Wicked at the Fox with Tiffany,
danger_kitty, Aussie Nat, and Chrisngnat. The only other time I'd seen the show was
Blood Ray's birthday party, which wasn't the full show, so I wasn't sure quite what to expect. Traffic and parking sucked, but the show was great. The ending was different than what Blood Ray had presented, so I was genuinely surprised. One odd thing about Wicked though, is that I don't enjoy the ensemble numbers as much as I do in other musicals. Elphaba's songs? Great. Glinda rocked my socks. But when the whole company sang together, I was not as happy with it. I'm not sure if that's because of the songs or because of this particular ensemble, the members of which seemed to be a bit more interested in outsinging each other than with singing as a group. After the show, we had dinner at Duff's, then went back to Timiffany's to watch her make cookies for a cookie exchange she was doing the next day. Eating reject cookies is always fun. Oooh, and I also received my package from Amazon: DVDs of the entire series of
The Oblongs and
Mission Hill, which are both criminally underappreciated shows.
Sunday, I went to the Rams game with my dad. He began to annoy the piss out of me from the very second he called (wondering why I wasn't at our meeting place yet...ten minutes before we were supposed to meet. Hi, have we met? Nobody questions Limecrete's punctuality!), and continued pushing my buttons until I exploded at him as we left the game. This is still new to me. As I was telling Blood Ray earlier, when my parents get on my nerves, I used to just silently resent them for a while. Actually fighting with them feels strange, and yet is strangely refreshing. Getting that shouting out of my system made me feel better, so I'm much more cheery today than I would have been otherwise. Still, I went home from the game (which sucked in itself - hey Rams, you're supposed to go towards the other team's endzone) in a crappy mood, and wound up not going over to Timiffany's for Sunday night shows.
Looks like this week's going to be pretty full too, what with the restaurant shift and the Family Feud at a lesbian bar (yeah, I don't know). Note to myself: clean your damn apartment up before going to Kansas City this weekend. You know how you hate coming home to a mess.
