I went to Showtune Tuesday this past week, and had a very strange and somewhat unpleasant reaction to it. I think I'm bad at being queer. Seriously. I know I shouldn't be trying to fit into some neat category, and I'm not trying to create or enforce stereotypes here, but I just don't seem to fit in with the gay community. They all appear to know each other; to communicate in ways I'm not used to and frankly don't enjoy. Watching all the well-groomed, self-confident guys swarm around me as I wriggled around uncomfortably on the couch was akin to being in a foreign country and not speaking the language.
I don't know. I often feel like I'm trapped in the middle of straight and gay (socially, that is - thankfully, there has never been any sexual confusion on my part), and thus don't really belong to either group. It's a lonely feeling.
