Chapter 20
Both entered the room, her hotel room. He was holding her hand. They didn't say a word, just looking at each other. Yet, it was worth more than thousand words. They couldn't even say why they wouldn't speak with each other, why they were silent.
They were really nervous, especially Moonie. She was insecure about how their story might go on. She felt that she was right for believing her mother. Her mother didn't have a reason to lie to her, her own daughter, right? However, what if she did have one and they just didn't know it? What if she lied despite the fact that it was Moonie who asked her? Or what if her mother refused to make a DNA test?
On the way back she and Joong Ki talked about this possibility, after both agreed to ask her mother to take the test. Actually they wanted to go immediately but only then Moonie remembered that her parents would have meetings the whole day so they couldn't reach them. It was also the reason why they only could have dinner later together. So despite all the tense they had to wait some more hours. However, what? Yes, what would they do if her mother would say "no" and just asked them to believe her words und trust her? Would it be enough for them to go on like this? She was really not sure. Looking at him who was walking a step in front of her towards the living room, her heart told her that she loved this guy not as a "brother" but as a "man". She remembered the happiness she felt inside, when, after such a long time, his lips met hers and the warm embrace they shared afterwards.
What would happen if they would never ever find out the truth? Could they live with this feeling, the possibility of being siblings? Looking at him her love increased knowing of the burden now, that he had to carry all the years. Just as she had told herself to bury her feelings for him when he first told her, it must have been the same for him, all the years, since the moment he knew it. Yet, the feelings couldn't be killed, coldn't be buried, they were a part of him. Just as he was a part of her. Their love wasn't a high flame of short desire. It started with friendship and grew over the years to be solid-rock, enduring every hardship to come.
Letting go of her hand he went in the bathroom and came back with a towel in is hand. Puttting in on her head he softly rubbed her hair dry.
She kept hold of his hand, saying, "You need to take a shower and get out of the wet clothes or else you'll catch a cold."
"No, ladies first! I'll take one after you're done!" he answered back and tried to push her towards the bathroom.
"No way! You are more wet than me cause you were keeping the rain away from me while we were running," she disagreed.
She put both hands on her hips and looked sternly at him. Nodding he gave in, knowing that she wouldn't.
"Give me your clothes afterwards, I'll call the room service to dry it for you. I'll give you a t-shirt in the meantime," she called after him and went in her bedroom to look for a shirt that would fit him. If she remembered right she should have another white T-shirt in her luggage that would fit him. Mmmh...but what to wear underneath? She couldn't give him her pants or jeans, right? Holding up a pair of shorts with a flowery print she had to giggle imagining him in it. Oh right! This hotel had a boutique! She decided to go down to get him something. Luckily she knew his sizes cause she'd bought him clothes several times already. Quickly she only changed into another shirt. On her way down she let him know that she would be back in five minutes.
Soon both were freshly showered, in dry clothes. The room service just took care of his clothes and said it would take about half an hour to get it done. Slowly returning back to the living room she was really edgy. The next half an hour that they are stuck in this room would be critical. Would they be able to remain calm and control their feelings? She really couldn't tell. Her mind and heart were telling her two different stories. Before entering the room she took a deep breath and appealed to her own self-control. It was not that her love for him was fresh. She did control herself over all the years, right? However knowing that he returned her feelings made the situation not easier.
She smiled nervously and entered the room. Chae Won got beige colored pants and a blue shirt for him. So he didn't have to force himself in her clothes. When she sat down next to him on the couch he took her right hand in both of his.
"Let's do something, Moonie! Mmmh…what should we do? Watching a movie or do you prefer something else? Wait, it stopped raining, right? How about cycling? It's been years ago we cycled the last time," he suggested, surprising her.
"Now?" she wondered.
"Yes, now! It was not a good idea to come back here! We need to kill time till we can meet your mother again," he urged.
His eyes told her without words why they couldn't stay in this room. Without words they agreed not to go any further until they got their answers. Yet, the temptation was too overwhelming. So the only way was to avoid beeing alone anywhere.
"Ehhh…yes, that's a good idea! But where to get bikes here? I know, let's call the reception and ask," she nodded.
They were suprised to be told that the hotel did have a bike renting service. Again both agreed, after sharing a glance, to rent only one bike.
After they placed their reservation she went in her bedroom to get her backpack. Taking two bottles of soft drinks and a water out of the hotel mini bar she was ready for leave. Joong Ki insisted on caring her backpack. Sharing a warm smile they left the room. Fortunately the sky cleared up again and it was only cloudy, the perfect weather to go cycling.
Chae Won looked playfully at him and then the bike, saying, "Are you sure you can cycle with me on the back? Shall we better get another bicycle? I don't want you to be aching all over your body by this evening."
"Hah! Who do you think I am? I'm fit like never before, exercising everyday," he fibbed.
Raising a brow she didn't comment his statement. The truth would be revealed soon, right? She only grinned, "Sure! Whatever you believe! Since you are riding let me carry the backpack. If you are tired later, we can switch."
When he started to ride she wrapped her arms around his waist and put her head on his shoulders. Closing her eyes memories of their high school days rushed in. Back then they often took the bike to school, with the little difference that each had their own bike. Different from what both feared no one ever asked them for the other's phone number. It seemed the others knew that they were an item even back then. Was this feelings lastly due to the then unkown fact that they were blood-related? Thinking back she really only saw him kind like a brother first though all her friends adored him. They were all very envious of the natural relationship she had with him.
"However, the feeling you have right now are everything but brotherly!" her heart told her. Nodding she had to agree.
"Did you say something? I couldn't hear you," Joong Ki asked, feeling her movement on his back.
"No, I didn't! I'm just enjoying our trip," she answered. He squeezed her hand that was around his waist, telling her that he did, too.
"It feels just wonderful!" he screamed with all his might causing her to laugh happily. She couldn't agree more. Driving this bike somehow sewed the past with the present and threw a bright light on the future. Was it like the weather today, a forecast? First it was raining and then slowly it lightened up. Could there be anything more precious than spending the day with the most beloved one?
"Kamsanida," she told him.
"What for?" he wondered after throwing a quick look at her.
"For existing, for being here with me and for sharing my feelings," she answered with a soft voice.
Stopping the bike Joong Ki slowly turned to her, a serious look on his face, "I should be the one to be grateful. My life would have been a lot more lonesome without you!" With his palm he stroke her face fondly.
"Let's just say that we both are happy to have each other, agree?" she smiled tenderly.
Nodding he agreed while nearing her lips. After giving her a peck he started riding again.
They were driving down an elevation and the bike got faster. He was a versed driver though, keeping the bike easily under control. It felt nice having the wind blowing in their hair. Chae Won really didn't remember when she felt that light-hearted and relaxed the last time. She had to laugh happily again. They were crossing a crossroad when suddenly out of nowhere a car turned right with an immense speed and hit them. She was unable to scream, all she felt was pain and how she flew from the bike.
"Joong Ki-oppa!" was her first thought when she hit the floor. Slowly she opened her eyes. Though her whole body was aching and her left arm and leg was bleeding, nothing seemed to be broken. With wide opened eyes she looked for him. In the meantime the car's driver came out and was now hunkering over Joong Ki, who was lying on the street, while calling agitatedly for the ambulance. Why didn't he move? Despite her pain Chae Won limped over to him while holding her bleeding arm. Passer-bys told her worriedly to wait for the ambulance as well but she only shook her head. All her head knew was, "How is oppa?!?"
The moment she saw all the blood on his face she started to cry and quickly sat down next to him. She didn't dare to touch him. "Please, oppa, don't die! Don't die! Cheabal!" she screamed. Silence was the only answer she got...
