So, we started the New Year quietly enough since
daddysir was sick. Just a nice dinner at home and a Dexter marathon on NYE, then a tasty pork dinner at the home of J&R, a pleasant reminder to me that it is wonderful to have old friends who've known you for years to turn to when you are in periods of transition. Their constancy provides both a benchmark against which you can measure your progress and a cornerstone on which you can build your next dream.
More goodness when I started my new job on Wednesday. I think I'm going to like it. It feels easy and familiar already, and I'm looking forward to really digging in to the work that has to be done. Best bit is that my work computer is a snazzy new 15" MacBook Pro. When I brought it home Wednesday night, all I had to do to be able to work from home was open the damned thing and select our home wireless network. Boom! I was checking my work e-mail. How sweet is that?
Continued goodness when we met
totidem_verbis for dinner. She seemed to like her x-mas prezzies very much, which pleases me. It was grand to spend some more time with her before she heads back to school.
Then not so much goodness when we got to the Annex for Red Hot Words. Apparently, the people who had used the space the day before for a party had refocused all the stage lights off the stage. The place was also chock full of storage containers and stray detritus from the Center's holiday decorations and celebrations. It was a bit like trying to hold an open mic in your freaky granny's attic. Making matters much worse, no one showed up to read. I've been fearing all along that eventually all the writers would simply disappear after we moved to the Annex and lost the potential audience traffic from the Wednesday socials.
My mood wasn't at all improved by the fact that I felt myself coming down with a cold. Yes, I've finally got it.
Head ... Stuffy
Nose ... Runny
Eyes ... Watery
Ears ... Clicky
Throat ... Scratchy
Body ... Achey
Brain ... Foggy
Just like my own personal seven dwarves. Yee-haw!
