I am, for the moment, gleefully free from the secret touching game called gainful employment. Yesterday was my last day at Miserable Old Job (MOJ) and I don't start Shiny New Job (SNJ) until January 2.
Can you say "relaxed"?
I have to say that the folks at MOJ were very nice about my leaving. They made lots of sad faces and congratulatory noises. They gave me time and space to finish up all my projects and prepare documentation to pass along to my successors. They pretty much let me come and go as I pleased this past week, so I managed to sleep in a lot and normalized my fasting blood sugar. (Go figure.) They also bought me a lovely hydrangea, gave me a nice card, and took me to lunch on my last day. They are nice people, for the most part, and I am happy to have worked with them and, in a few cases, become friends with them. It felt really good to leave on good terms knowing I'd done a good job, left the place a little better for my having been there, and was moving on because it was the right thing for me to do.
When the New Year begins, I'll start SNJ, and I'm sure there will be some bumps and challenges. Still, I think the environment will be better for me, as will the daily practices of getting more sleep, walking to and from the bus, and getting some reading done on the ride. I've already started the paperwork for my benefits at SNJ, and I have to say I'm pretty pleased so far.
For the next couple of weeks, however, I have very few obligations on my agenda, and I'm getting ready to enjoy a few things I haven't had much time or energy for over the last year or so. A short list of examples
- going to the zoo with
totidem_verbis - watching the entire first season of The Tudors on Showtime
- re-watching seasons 1 and 2 of Dexter
- re-reading His Dark Materials trilogy
- making art
- sleeping in (ironically)
- walking around Green Lake
- visiting SAM, SAAM, and a few more art museums and/or galleries
- stretching and strength training
- making sock monsters
- spending quality time with
daddysir and the rest of the "freaky fun bunch" (don't snicker; you know it's true!)
I think I'm starting out today with some cookie madness at Club JuJu and maybe some packing fun with
girlshawn.
Let the games begin!
