Is this thing on?

So, it's been a long time since I've even thought about LJ, but a post from girlshawn brought me back here today, and I'm wondering whether anyone is still around.

Used to be, I didn't make it through a day without posting to and/or reading LJ. This was my social network, the place where I found others like me, people with thoughts, feelings, observations, and the courage to share them with total strangers. Back in those days, I didn't worry about having my account locked down, buttoned up, secured from the big bad world. I didn't even think about online privacy. In fact, I thought it was kind of cool how people whom I had never met could find me (or I could find them) by common interests and random happenstance.

In that way, LJ was a lot more life-like than say, Facebook, but perhaps a bit more like fantasy fiction than Twitter.

Anyway, I'm back on here today, so I figured I'd write a post, send up a flare, slip a message into a bottle and set it adrift on the virtial tide.

random thoughts, communication, lj hamsterwheel, writing, humanity, social media, culture
