So thanks to Amy, I decided to update this thing since my last post was forever and a day ago. There's so much to talk about, I don't even know where to start. I suppose I'll start with the most recent stuff and go from there.
For those of you who haven't heard details yet, I was in a car accident on Tuesday the 15th. And before ANYONE says ANYTHING about my driving (yes, I like to drive fast. BUT I'm a safe driver and up until Tuesday I have had a perfect driving record for the last 7-8 years. No accidents, and no tickets!) I'm going to point out that I wasn't in the wrong for this one. The other guy got the ticket (if a ticket was even given), not me. To make a long story short, I was driving home from work for my lunch hour. A guy was at a stop sign and pulled out onto the road I had the right-of-way on. I didn't have enough time to stop (although I still slammed on my brakes), so I ended up hitting (T-boning?) him. Totaled my little white Corolla (although that hasn't been announced officially by my claims person at Allstate yet) and he came out without a single scratch on his pickup. The damage was bad enough that I had to climb out my passenger side door. And even though people were somewhat persistent that an ambulance be called because my left shoulder and right foot were a little sore, I resisted since all I was worried about was getting back to work. The police were called, the report was written, and I was only 30 minutes late getting back to work. So not too bad.
I ended up scheduling an appointment at the doctor for the following day at the persistence of my boss, co-workers, branch manager, AND my parents. Good thing too, because I woke up the next morning with a very swollen foot and I couldn't lift my left arm. I left the doctor's office with my foot in an aircast and with strict orders to not lift anything over 20 lbs because it could do further damage to my shoulder (although I was naughty and disregarded that rule when it came to picking up Zeke). As far as recovery goes, my arm is in much better shape (I can lift it without too much trouble or pain) and after spending a good portion of my day in bed (when I wasn't hobbling up and down 2 flights of stairs to do laundry - not an easy task when 1 of my feet is somewhat useless!) I'm not limping as much when I need to walk around. We'll see how much better I'm feeling tomorrow. I'm praying for a fast recovery tho, because I would prefer to drive to Atlanta in a couple weeks rather than fly. It's going to suck if I have to be in ATL, carless when everyone else isn't home! Been there, done that. It's not fun.
I suppose that should be my next bit of news. I scheduled vacation time at work for August 2 through August 17. For the last few weeks I've been upset thinking that I wasn't going to get my vacation request (because we've been having staffing issues at work) but was told last week that my vacation would probably be approved. So my plan (before totaling my car) was to drive to Atlanta in the Accord (which is a much more reliable car than my Corolla). I've done the drive by myself before, and as long as I cut the trip into 2 days, I'm fine. But now that we're down to 2 cars for the 3 drivers in this household, I'm not so sure that I'll get to drive. Sucks tho, since airline tickets are well over $300-$400 now (a total ripoff since I used to get tickets for just over $200!). Dad doesn't want me to drive because he doesn't want to be down a car, and Megan doesn't want me to drive because she's worried about my foot and whether or not I can handle a 13-15 hour drive by myself comfortably. We'll see what happens in this next week.
So after my little vacation in August, school starts back up in September. I'm kind of excited, because 1.) it's my last semester (then I GRADUATE!), 2.) I get to choose a field placement, and 3.) I'm taking almost all Psych classes this semester, which includes the 1 advanced lab (Experimental Child Psych) that I've been eager to take since I took Child Psych my sophomore year. And I'm taking a Current topics in Psych course, where the topic is the "Psychology of Emotions." I hope this will be an interesting class! And I'm hoping that maybe this class won't be all about exams like the others. The only non-Psych class I'm taking is a film studies/English class that's on "Women in the Media," which I'm sure will be interesting. I was successfully able to fit 13 credits into only 2 days on campus (yay me!) and I'm only there from 9:30am til about 4pm. Nice.
I'm a little worried about my field placement - I'm still not sure what I want to do! I have a contact at the Waukesha location for LSS (Lutheran Social Services), but I would really like to try out this line therapy thing and work with Autistic kids. I contacted a couple of companies early last year, but I couldn't commit to 6 months of work at the time, so they wanted me to get back to them whenever I could. Hopefully, I'll be able to work something out this semester but I'm still waiting to hear back from my professor and see if he thinks working with Autistic children will be an "appropriate" field placement. If he's ok with it, both companies want me because I come with a high recommendation from one of the best Behavioral psychologists in the area (my Applied Behavior Analysis professor from last semester). So here's to keeping my fingers crossed that this will work out!
Anyway, this has been a long enough update. It's almost 12:30 and I still have a mountain of clean laundry (4 loads worth) to tackle on my bed. Hopefully there will be more updates soon! Good night!
