Day 6, 7 and 8.

Mar 29, 2010 22:45

Woke up at 7:00am to get to the city at 8am to get our car. It's this gorgeous red Corolla Accent! I am in love with it and want one for myself...

Off we go to the Great Ocean Road. Got a bit lost in the city and Melbourne people are rather impatient creatures when it comes to driving. Saw a Lambourgini in bright yellow! It's the Grand Prix weekend, must have been showing off or something. Apparently Lygon St fills up with Ferrari-s on Grand Prix day.

Went to Geelong. It was early so barely anybody out. Easiest + cheapest place to park was in Westfield (haha) 0-1 hrs was $1.00. So we went out onto the harbour and took photos and ate pancakes with mixed berries and cream and had coffee!! and there was this fisherman dude on the harbour and he caught this massive flathead and i kind of wanted to take a photo but anyway.

Great Ocean Road was GREAT. We played on the beach and the rocks and got to the 12 apostles lookout about 2pm and then went a bit further to eat fish and chips except we bought too much and it was kind of oily. Bleh.

Ipod ran out of batteries but we managed to find the Mix 106.5 and Today FM equivalents which went in and out of reception but it was awesome and we sang Backstreet Boys and Taylor Swift and Owl City and stuff and somehow found songs rather appropriate for the roadtrip! Except I can't think of an example right now haha. "OOooooh we're halfway there!!!" (Bon Jovi!) Hahahaha.

Had another coffee as well on the return leg and I have to say Mary did an excellent job being the driver person!! I would be exhausted. I fell asleep in the car after lunch. And I probably wouldn't have trusted my driving at night anyway since my contacts I think were about 6/7.5 or 6/9 by nighttime cos they were not my latest script (still using old ones I haven't finished from my old prescription..)

We missed the penguins unfortunately. I think we spent too much time getting there?? Not sure. Apparently it's 3 hours if you go straight to the 12 apostles but we took more like 6 both ways. We saw Kangaroos though!! Not that they look much like Penguins...

Picked up my Melbourne friend from Southern Cross station at about 9 and headed off home. Watched a movie and then went out to watch Arsenal v Birmingham!!! We went out at 1am to get to Charles Dickens Tavern to watch Arsenal! A Stella Artois costed about 6 bucks.

Anyway both my friend and I actually thought we could be jinxing Arsenal because it's basically the first full game we were attempting to watch since the start of the season...needless to say we left 5 minutes after halftime when the score was still 0-0 and the next morning Chelsea had ass-whooped somebody 7-1 and Man United beat somebody 4-0 ...and we drew 1-1. ANGST!!!!!

OMG, 3am IS NOT the time to decide to go home, all the taxi's are on changeover! And this is the first time I've been out at 3am!! Thank GOD I was not trotting around in a tight short dress and heels and instead being ridiculously comfortable in comparison in jeans a hoodie and flatttts.

Managed to flag down a taxi with my epic taxi flagging skills (not really, just luck; some guys hopped out of a taxi basically right in front of us and they were nice enough to let us in!) and the driver was changing over at 6am. So, good.

Day 7

Had to wake up the next morning about 6:30 (I KNOW, 2 HOURS SLEEP, KILL ME) because we had to drop the car back at 8am. Mary set off for Church and Juan, Yee Wing, my friend and I went downtown to Melbourne City. Took photos in the Graffiti Streets and went to the little laneways again and had coffee at Brunetti's which is quite yummy (and because we needed it). we pretty much skipped the rest of Melbourne City because it's like Sydney (DJs Myer Sportsgirl Portmans Forever New Glassons JB HiFi etc etc same old same old) except instead of being elongated in Sydney (ie along George St) It's in a Grid Shape so everything's more compact.

Headed down to Bridge Road in Richmond on the 48 tram from Collins St to North Balwyn. It's a shopping factory outlet street!! Bought this lovely little necklace and bought Body Shop stuff at under half price SCORRREEEE :D Although not the Body Shop stuff that I wanted. (Basically, all the popular Body Shop stuff is full price, like their Body Butters, Lip Balms, etc.)

Met up with Mary again and went back on the 48 tram to Docklands (except I think apparently it wasn't Docklands or something) but there was NO one there and we were like what? Why? It wasn't so bad.

Went to the Queen Victoria Markets (by this time approx 3pm ish) and had lunch at McDonalds. There was a Turkish Festival and we wanted Gozlemes but they were like 10 bucks and there was a lot of smoke and some of us were in Contact Lenses so smoke was no good soooo we went to Maccas. Haha. I haven't had a McChicken in YONKS. Also, is it possible in a Regular Meal to get a Large Diet Coke and Small Chips rather than Regular/Regular? might try that next time...

Anyway, QVM was uneventful. Yee Wing bought a bag hangover and Juan wanted to buy these miniature glass animals except we failed at getting them down from 7$ each to 6.50$ each. FAIL! I mean come on they're like smaller than a Malteser! I wanted Soccer shirts but I kept thinking they'd be cheaper in China...haha.

Went to Crown Casino and took lovely pictures at the foyer. We were pretty knackered by then. Found a little place where there were couches and Mary had a nap. (I mean I was pretty zonked out on 2 hours sleep but I was awake and probably was running on adrenaline and caffeine and bad circadium rhythm thingys - how the hell I used to watch every Arsenal game at 2 in the morning I'd never know.) Decided to walk through the Casino and get out of there. It's pretty small? Watched people play that Wheel of Fortune thingyyyyy and not many people were winning stuff at the poker machines. We left before the Flame things were spouting from the Crown :( Oh well.

Yarra was pretty and nice as per usual.

Went back to the city and found a Coles express with even cheaper Diet Coke than Lygon St. $1.00 Diet Coke!! Bought 2 cans.

The problem with buying groceries with a couple of days left is that you can't buy stuff in bulk. We couldn't buy juice cos we didn't think we'd finish it by Thursday.

Got home and ate 2 minute noodles and went to bed pretty much. Did not do much else. Actually have to get to uni even earlier cos we're going to Metro Clinic tomorrow....Sigh.

It's motherfucking dark when I wake up at 6am and it's pouring with rain. Which is fantastic. My casual shoes have dying soles so I had to wear my thongs. Brought a hotel towel with me to prepare myself for wiping down my feet.

Still dark when we got on the tram to Essendon Station. I was obviously not awake because I dropped coins whilst on the tram repeatedly and THEN i almost forgot to take my ticket AND i forgot to take my change and thankfully someone pointed it out to me.

The train out was nice cos the sun was rising by then but it was still raining. The road was pretty straight forward (you'd need a map - ACO gives it to you) but there was this bit where there was mud ALL across the footpath and I nearly stacked it in my thongs!!! :((( Thank goodness I didn't.

Metro Clinic is interesting and there is a little cafe inside. They use Optomate so it's 100% computerised record cards so it's kind of interesting in that sense I guess. The patients were okay but pretty much like ACO. Today was interesting because I saw a lady who had Bells Palsy and a guy who was blind in his left eye due to shingles and had a neovascularised cornea and I had to do a VF and also a BV workup on a girl who had a previous Hx of Headaches (although not anymore). I think I did okay but seriously I need to work on my skills. How is beyond me since I doubt we're BIOing back in sydney anytime soon.

Anyway, caught the tram back. Cooked Pasta Carbonara to be ready for when Mary and Juan came home :)

Wah I'm breaking out :( must be all the junk food and late nights and coffee!!

Specsavers called us except we're busy the next two days and we're off on Thursday so we're not seeing them...haha!

Anyway watching Entourage now. Then bed. I have a peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch!

Signing off!
