Day 4
Slowly getting fitter with our daily 45 min walks to and from the ACO place to home. Will be depressed if no weight loss is recorded when I get home, I'm freaking tired out from walking!!!
Full day of General Clinic. I had quite straightforward patients and nothing particularly interesting that I can recall now (I can't recall much anyway), oh, one of my patients was this elderly italian woman and she was reading out the alphabet in italian...thank god i still know my italian alphabet from primary school!!! She had a breakdown of her binocular vision in different positions of gaze and we tried prescribing prism except she didn't like it....bleh. They have prism bars in the trays under the vert machines and prism trial lenses at the very BACK of the trail sets so you have to pull it out.
I don't mind their trial frames, they're quite easy to slip lenses in and out. i'm going to hate mine when i start using it...although, all the lenses fall out onto the desk as soon as you put it down, there goes your endpoint!! which i keep forgetting to record!
Yeah that was pretty much the most interesting patient.
We went out to lunch down lygon st cos all 4 of us were together on thursday (rarity). We got back on time but had pee break etc before heading to our room and the clinic manager told us off for being like 3 minutes late. WHAT. I'm sorry I would prefer to concentrate on the patient rather than whether or not my bladder was going to burst in 2 hours. (Prolly TMI). But seriously 3 minutes is not that bad. The patients weren't there yet anyway...plus finished hell early (didn't dilate the last patient).
Met up with a Melbourne friend down Lygon St a bit further down than I usually walk...ate Gelato, apparently it's one of the best gelato places in the world everrrrr so obviously had to go there. Was yum!!
Saw a lot of Ferrari etc shops on the way down Lygon St cos the Grand Prix is on this weekend. I think Lygon St is like Norton St, probably about 95% Italian...
Oh, they also moved our lockers. Probably didn't want us in the staff common room we've now moved to the lockers in the fire stairwell. You DEFINITELY can't fit 2 BIO trolleys in those.
Bought some food again and attempted to cook rice but it came out a bit soggy. Oh well still good! And better with Peanut Butter! We had steak slices with it as well as mixed vegies.
Juan and Mary to Broadmeadow on Friday to the Metro Clinic as it's the most accessible apparently. Don't see the point because it's just General Clinic but at a more inconvenient location.
Day 5
Juan and Mary left about 15 miniutes earlier than myself and Yee Wing this morning to catch the tram down to the train station to get to Broadmeadow. So Yee Wing and I walked through the park. Rather nice out.
Getting there earlier and earlier! Haha. Our first contact lens patients cancelled so we had a quicky tute with the supervisor guy (he's half cute, lmao. but horrible laugh.)
First CL px was a keratoconic who just needed her RGPs adjusted cos they were a bit loose with a lot of edge lift...so I watched the supervisor guy fiddle with the quadcurve lens parameters a bit. Interesting but! Very obvious corneal thinning and munson sign, i think she was like -23 in both eyes! What's the lines running horizontally across the cornea near the cone called again????
Second px returned for a delivery of lenses except they ordered in +1.75 instead of -1.75 FAILLLL we gave him trials and overrefracted him and then he was also going to do a DFE so we did that and I SWEARRRRR he has HIV retinopathy lesions (the guy was HIV positive and diabetic) but the supervisor thought it was just hypopigmentation!!! STUPID.
After that had a superrr quick lunch (steak slice with lettuce and cucumber) - oh btw the sandwich press at the ACO died (I did not break it I swear) - and then to ocular therapeutics clinic.
And the disease of the day was cataract...
The first px was stupid and it was just a delivery. 1/2 hour out the door thank you bye bye did not get marked.
Second px ended up needing to be referred for cataract surgery actually.
There's this nuts shop on the top of lygon street with really yum nuts and crackers and lollies and yee wing loves that place haha. bought a mix of stuff 500g for only 3 bucks!!!
Had to lug a heapload of crap home today because me and yee wing have metro clinic on monday. So heavy!!! Got through the long 45 minute walk singing duets and getting high on air. haha.
It was raining and muggy and 7pm by the time we got home and couldnt be bothered going back out to the city when shops close at 9pm and we still hadn't had dinner yet.
Watched a movie and here we are, organising Great Ocean Road trip tomorrow!
