A Myth of the City: The Return of the Gods

May 09, 2007 04:26

Elizabeth, the white lady of the Moon, was the last and first of the City. For eras the Moon's Keeper wandered the city, sustaining its cycles and watching its breaths. Alone, Elizabeth slumbered and dreamed of the future. She remembered the unborn gods and in her mind they took shape; in her dreams, they took life. Elizabeth wandered and slept alone while the moon rose and set under the waves for many eras until the City was ready, ready to rise from the home of water and tides to the world.

As the city rose, Elizabeth exhaled and in her breath she and all her dreams were reborn. The gods spread throughout the universe and surveyed the damage of centuries. While they had rested within Elizabeth, destruction and chaos had strangled the universe. Some of their people had grown twisted in the Time of Darkness and now preyed upon the rest. The gods pledged that they would never again leave their people and as a sign of that oath, Elizabeth divided the Moon and spread it among all the worlds, so no one was ever without light or her protection.
