Meta Recs: Feminism, Male Privilege, Sexualities

Oh, work.  This day is taking FOREVER, I swear.  Livejournal is the only recourse.

Meta Recs

When Worlds Collide: Fandom and Male Privilege by Lucy Gillam (
cereta)
Why I like this:  This is probably the single best explanation of why it pisses me off so much when men call a woman majoritive club, group, community, etc, gender biased.  And that pretty much explains the whole thing right there, once you also know that I am a Women's Studies student, and therefore pretty much deal with this stuff every day.  I have used parts of this in acedemic papers.  It also has the distinction of being the first meta I ever read.

Sexuality and Slash Fandom by Shoshanna (
the_shoshanna)
Why I like this:  She talks about the evolution of sexuality and the perception of fluid vs. rigid sexuality in slash from the standpoint of someone who has been in fandom almost from the beginning.  The historical perspective is fascinating (fantastic anecdotes), as are the changes she's percieved in the way that we (fandom, or possibly people in general) conceptionalise sexualities.

meta, activism: politics, meta: recs, activism: women & gender theory
