well, I'm back in Chicago. And it wasn't as exciting as I hoped it to be. A few things have already put a damper on my return home. First and foremost was the craptastic car accident I got into which totaled my four month old car. Leaving me in Lockport, IL without a way to escape from time to time. Secondly, my telemetry gig is no longer providing the robust and much needed 40 hour work week. This is no time for me to be short-changed. I need all the paycheck I can get. So, out go the applications again. Hoping a promising job will land me back west.
Ok, but enough of the downer stuff, and lemme say how great my trip was to California. We packed so much in the 2 and a half weeks while still retaining a very unstructured and carefree vibe. Hiking in Yosemite, wine tasting at the Navarro vineyards, standing in the shadow of huge sequoias and old growth redwoods, eating fresh-caught abalone, kayaking in the Pacific with harbor seals, observing crabs forage at low tide, visiting conservatories, bbq-ing at the beach, listening and dancing to four days of great music, dining in downtown san francisco, watching fireworks over the skyline...and all with only a few very minor scuffles, still crazy about each other. Which unfortunately, meant a very sad and far too short goodbye at the airport.
Why is California so far?
