hd_holidays reveal

Jul 14, 2007 12:17

hd_holidays has just posted the big reveal. I'd like to give a big round of applause to jamie2109 and nqdonne for organizing the fantastic fest. I'm looking forward to participating in the next round (if it's okay, that is).

My offering this year is for klarsfeld, titled Once Burned, which probably has made me the most unpopular gift-exchange participant in fandom.

totally great!
it's like drabble! you write the whole story in 40 name (hm... i don't know in english, but in manga we call it 'name', i think.)
hmmm, i think you should make comics more. it's refreshing from all the fic. :)
anyway, good job!

Thank you very much ♥

And you counted! Yes there are a total of 40 panels. I have no idea why the Japanese call it ネーム, but yeah, it looks like a storyboard, isn't it? :-)

there are all kinds of stories and art in exchanges, even sad ones, so i don't think you let anyone down in terms of expectations. and if your recipient asked for or didn't mind a sad ending, then it's perfectly alright, esp. if that ending felt more right to you than a forced, happy one.

while the comic made me sad, i do admire the artistry of it. it's certainly one of many possibilities of how harry's and draco's future could turn out.

Thank you very much! I guess I just need some assurance. :-)

I apologize that my little story has made you sad. Hopefully the sequel will make you feel otherwise. :-D

This is absolutely gorgeous! Just...*breathes*

My favourite panels were, in order of appearance:
- Harry's hand on the door handle with his wedding ring
- Harry and Draco juxtapositioned against each other, mostly in silhouette. I love the cold glint of light against Harry's right lens.
- The sequence where Harry's thoughts are layered over his spoken words.
- The panel with the two of them kissing against the tiled floor. I love the use of space here and the use of almost all white.
- The panels of Harry looking at the door after it closes behind Draco, upside down and in negative.

Seriously, I think I liked the entire thing! :D

Thank you very much. I'm so happy to hear that you liked the comic. It's my first attempt of using Chinese calligraphy brush for fanart. Glad to hear that it worked well with the drawings. The upside down corridor is my favorite too! I'm proud of it, actually. *is shameless*

Thanks again ♥

Yay! I knew it was you when I first saw it (again, it's the characteristic cast of their mouths).

My favorite details: I love the way you conveyed the feel of party chitchat in the first panel. And then the hand with the wedding ring - knowing that it belongs to Harry and that he belongs to someone else - the starkness of the black and white underscores this feeling. I love it.

I also love Harry's profile when he looks up at the sound of a door, and Draco's face when who he sees who's there (his eyes speak volumes! they're heartbreaking). Harry's expression at seeing the look on Draco's face is just pure sheepishness and guilt (perfect!). Just from the exchange of expressions in these two panels, you just *know* how deeply Harry must have hurt Draco.

But the panels that truly break my heart are the ones that just show us Draco's back. He looks so vulnerable! The way his hair falls against the back of his neck and contrasts with the black of his sweater. I can't explain why, exactly, but those panels choke me up every time ( ... )

*laughs* Next time I'll draw with my left hand. And gag both Harry and Draco.

Glad that you liked the wedding ring - that panel broke my heart, even though it's the most logical to me, seeing Harry wearing the wedding ring. *sobs*

The comic in from Harry's POV, and thus I tried to be very explicit when doing Harry's expression, whereas Draco's was sort of masked. I'm happy to know that both worked out well. I put a bit of white-out to highlight Draco's hair on his neck, which I don't do often (because I'm lazy) unless the character is some blond, handsome, magical boy whom I love too much.

I quite like Harry's weary look in the last panels as well, and I'm content to end the story there.

Thank you ♥ I'm truly happy to hear that you don't mind the hopelessly sad, unresolved ending. The sequel will come out, no matter what happens in DH (which we will soon know, won't we? *is scared*)

I loved it -- and didn't the recipient want something dark-ish or unhappy? Heartbreak is okay, once in a while. Although I will be ecstatic if you can write a happy-ending sequel. *g*

I'm so glad and relieved to hear that you liked it. Hopefully I won't be too shocked by Book 7 to work on the sequel. *is scared*

*is scared too*

I am frantically trying to finish my H/D novel before Friday -- one chapter to finish editing, and one more to write. Eeek!

Yeah, better to finish all the WIP H/D before the new canon comes out. That's also why I put out the Interlude yesterday. :-)
