A post for the sake of posting

I sort of felt I should refrain from posting anything until I made a "back from the US!"-post with a million pictures, but what the hell. I'm at work at the gallery right now, not exactly bored, but due to the fact that most visitors like wandering the gallery by themselves rather than having me stalking them, I make myself busy, but sort of available, by going "clicky-clicky" on my computer keyboard. Today doesn't seem to be as slow as the previous two days, people keep dropping in regularly, but not really so that there's more than tops two groups of people in at the same time. It's quite warm, air is heavy, probably going to develop into a thunderstorm.

Last week, from Monday to Thursday, I had some time off, and the boy and I went driving to the east of Finland, to Lappeenranta, Savonlinna, Punkaharju (Retreetti), Mikkeli, and down past Anttola and Ristiina, and Taidekeskus Salmela. Never been to any of these places! Was very exciting. The road there was the most boring ever, but the further north and east we got, the prettier it became and the nicer people were. And the stranger the food got, as well. The bacteria in Etelä-Savo obviously do not get along with my own, so got a very unpleasant stomach-ache for the latter half of the trip. On top of that the car decided that fast and smooth acceleration wasn't an important part of the driving-experience. Did manage to work around that, but sometimes it could be slow going getting up hills. (and there were a lot of hill!). I feel like I understand my own country a small, tiny, little bit better now. I didn't honestly think there was much new to know, but since I kept feeling like I was abroad, it must have been different from what I'm used to. Realizing that there's been this entire part of my own country that I knew nothing about sort of hit me. I've spent so much time travelling abroad, when there's still quite a bit to see here. And I don't mean to say that it was in any way.. err, well, to be frank, it wasn't pretty or amazing all the time, but that's just it. It's actually quite fun to visit places you know aren't going to be special or interesting, and outright horrid. But you've never been there, and there's always something to be found, and always something new to experience.

As for the USA trip, it's started to feel extremely distant already. I think it must be due to coming back home, nothing having changed, and me starting almost every sentence with "In the US..", and feeling very self-conscious and bothersome, that I just stopped thinking about it. But still I'm going through pictures and the videos Jutta filmed. With the movies the funnest part is almost the one's I wasn't there for. It's a strange and fun feeling seeing yourself walk off the camera in the distance, remembering exactly what you did afterwards, but on camera there's a completely different thing going on :P Will have to upload some pictures soon! Perhaps compile them into book-format and have them printed, even!

Now I will go make a hasty cup of coffee, and perhaps have some lunch :)
