Christmas vacation development.

Melody went on her first airplane trip on December 19th. However, she must have felt the excitement that she had a hard time sleeping the night before, or it could have been that it wasn't her bed. She made it down to Arlanda with no problems. Yet, she chose the wrong time to have a hunger panic, as we were waiting in security. Once through, we made some formula just in time. She liked her airplane trips, though waiting 2-3 hours on the planes just to take off was not fun at all. She handled the security trip in London well, despite the fact that her parents were rushed. Then she slept at the Hilton Heathrow for the night, and boy, did she not want to sleep. It could also have been that her bed was too far away from her parents' bed, as she had better sleep the next few nights. Then there was the London-Denver Chicago trip. Melody was well behaved, and she even saw another girl in the waiting gate room. On the plane, she behaved much better than the boy next to us, and hardly cried, which impressed the staff and a few attendants. Despite the problems her parents had with rationing out the formula and shopping for a new type, she handled well. Her favorite bed must have been at the Westin, though she slept decently in the Holiday Inn bed as well. Once we made it to Denver, she was really tired, as she slept while her grandparents were fighting with traffic to arrive. She was in her Baby Björn carrier when she saw them, and got a hug from both parents. She knew immediately that they were part of her family as well, and was happy to be held by them. She sneezed a bit as well, but it was part of her cold she got in Sweden just before leaving. :( Then we walked the long way to the car and buckled up for the trip home.

She had no problem with her extended family, and was adored upon by all, even her uncle. Her aunts spoiled her with toys, clothing and attention. Melody even got to see her cousin Ariana, and they got along rather well (yet Daddy never saw much of it.) Melody was so nice that she had to share her cold with her family. :)

While she didn't have her right formula, she took the Nestle one rather well as a substitute. She also found some new-found favorites in the American baby food. She liked the sweet potatoes, and the turkey rice dinner and bananas with tapioca, among the few. Of course, she didn't get any oatmeal, in anticipation of hoping to be reunited with her real oatmeal and formula with the missing bags. It eventually came a couple days ago, and after 2 days of it, she ended up vomiting it up. Now, whether that was a formula change, altitude, or just a minor "hiccup" (as she breathed wrong in those vomits) or a combination is still in debate by the grown-ups, but it was a one-time incident.

Even before she left, she was standing on her knees. Yet, after only being at her grandparent's house a couple days, she insists on standing next to the couch, her parents, and her new walking toy (in the next post...) often. This started around Christmas Eve. Melody can also crawl fast and far, and she will just to get to her daddy, and then stand up using his legs as support. It looks cute. Last night, Daddy spotted her standing free of supports, but maybe only for a second, before grabbing to something for support. This happened twice, so her parents will have to keep 3 eyes on her soon.

Sleep wise, she hates it when her mommy coughs her awake. Part of that problem is that she shares a room with her parents, and the air mattress isn't the quietest in the world. Though she can sleep most nights, it hasn't been fun trying to get her to sleep, or keep her sleeping without her star (that was in the suitcase.) Even still, she can sleep maybe 3 hours before waking up. Her naps are shorter than usual: about 1-2 1hr naps daily. Just a few more nights, and then the fun of adapting back to Swedish time in her own bed begins.
