I'm still planning to use my christmas bonus to buy a sofa. If there still is money left, once the store will finally be able to show me color samples for the covers and cushions.

While I was playing "Game On" I drunk a lot of tea to get all the necessary "water" points ;-) I kept that up after the game was over and probably because the outside temps make hot liquid essential. I bought not only various different teas and suppllies over the last few days, but as I was tired of my ordinary thermos, today I even bought a unique teapot, teapot-warmer and cups. I couldn't help myself. I still hope there will be enough money left for the sofa at the end of the month.

This week once again has been (and will be) rather busy. I still haven't done enough for the grad school seminar next weekend *sigh*

Maybe I should have spend the rare free time with studying instead of refreshing my memory of Outlander book 5 and 6 over the last few days. But what can I say? I just love this story and I enjoyed skimming through these books and reading some of the important scenes again. And I realized that my memory definitely needed to be refreshed regarding some events of the complex storyline. But now that I'm back to listening to the audiobook of the 7th book, which I have only ready a bit over a year ago, I might find some time to spend my rare free time a bit more productive. And get more sleep! I only listen to the audiobook when I'm out and about or maybe in bed for a bit, before I turn off the lights.

I was searching the web for a certain piece of Outlander information, when I came across a book review site and among the reviews of book #7 I found this list, which made me laugh. I hope, Holly, who wrote this list doesn't mind that I'm quoting her here. I'm a big fan of the Top 3 reasons at the bottom *g*

TOP TEN REASONS WHY THE OUTLANDER SERIES IS BETTER THAN THE TWILIGHT SERIES

10. Heroine is not complimented on how delicious her blood smells. Instead, she is told that her ass looks like two ripe melons. Just what every woman wants.

9. When the hero has to rescue the heroine, he doesn't merely have to run at lightning speed across the parking lot. He actually has to travel halfway across the world, kill a few dozen villains, and blow up a few buildings.

8. But that doesn't matter because just as often the heroine can rescue her own damn self.

7. Pirates are WAY better than vampires.

6. The creepy, obsessive dude is an actual villain and not the hero of the story.

5. The denouement involves actual danger, as opposed to what essentially amounts to a Rainbow Gathering gone awry.

4. The doctor doesn't come off as a pedophile.

3. Not one single Renesmee in the entire series.

2. Nobody is sparkly.

1. People actually have sex, and lots of it.

The recent post from Stirrup Queen made me once again realize that I should read more poems. Poetry wasn't the subject of her post, just in case you're wondering, but she included the poem "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. I've read that poem a few years ago and was deeply moved, even though I couldn't and still can't exactly say why. Ok, back then it might have been, because it might have been part of a hockey commercial *g*. But I'm not even sure I remember that correctly.
Anyway I think it's a beautiful and powerful poem and when it was brought to my attention again with this post I was once again in awe, which doesn't happen often in regards to poems. Probably because I don't read enough of them. Or maybe because I have rather high standards regarding poetry? I'm not a fan of the poems which don't have any noticeable structure, like rhyme and rhythm. Yes, I'm old-fashioned that way. But "Fire and Ice" definitely meets these standards. I ordered a collection of Frost's poems via Amazon today :-). Enough talking about poems, here it is

Fire and Ice
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great,
And would suffice.

(Robert Frost,1920)
