11. After some chasing, I receive an email saying that LG are looking into the possibility of providing a replacement fridge, and in due course I am called by LG Customer Services to say this is the resolution that they are offering. I am given the model number, and we check that it will meet the purpose, including fitting where the old fridge went. The whole call was clearly couched as an offer which I was happy to accept, since it did resolve the issue of the broken handle, as well as the effective equivalent of the repair. I was happy with this outcome and believed the whole issue was resolved ( ... )

Credit card refund? I've had much better luck with my card than certain companies.
Or small claims court if not keeping to Sale if Goods Act?

Sadly I paid through Mastercard debit, and small claims won't be worth my time.

It's not really about the money, it's about the shocking awfulness of it. I guess at least I know each time I push back at them I'm eating into the profit they took from me in the first place but it's a small comfort. I'm genuinely shocked it's this bad, and that they really don't seem to care. I was expecting the escalation team to take one look and go "oh my god this is awful". Instead I'm being treated like a scrounger, and that's what I really don't like.

Heh. I really ought to do a fluffier update too, right?

Life is good. I've moved back to the UK and have been doing up the farm we bought. Heading towards done finally. It's been a long hard slog but worth it :)

Hiya,

Resurrected this after several years and was trimming to decide what to do with it. I don't promise to update much but happy to add you back :)

Came here cuz I saw your post on bad_service and I wanted to tell you what I learned after living a year in Korea without being blasted on the comm for it. I honestly would never buy anything expensive that is made in Korea, ever, after living there. They have buildings where they didn't insulate the windows, frost comes in and completely covers inside cabinets and freezes them shut, I got sick from mould in their heated floor system, and in the mount-on-the-wall air con system. I've had bad experiences with them in the hospital too, everything is shoddy. My fiance had a Hyundai, and they put the freaking circuit board under the drink holder and wanted to charge him for liquid damage when he spilled a drink (thankfully, he was able to talk them out of it because that's ridiculous). Just avoid Korean companies if you can, otherwise you take a gamble like you do when you buy things made in China :/

Thanks for commenting. At the time I bought the fridge freezer, unfortunately, it was the only brand that offered a non plumbed in ice dispenser option on an American style fridge freezer so I was kind of stuck! I looked at product reviews which seemed OK so I took a gamble. My bad :(

The other players in the market seem to be equally bad for service repairs (Samsung, Daewoo) although Beko, which has a better rep, may have one (although I couldn't find it when I looked).

My solution when my unrepairable fridge bites the dust will be to get plumbing run from the utility room through the wall to give me more options with reputable companies rather than risk LG again.
