Thinking too hard about a fandom I'm not really a part* of

May 09, 2011 22:04

If I write it down, I'll stop obsessing about it? Hopefully?

* In my definition, passive =/= part of fandom
active commenter/writer/artist/reccer/vidder/etc. = part of fandom

Everything you need to know about Axis Powers Hetalia:
1) Countries are personified, thus their having complicated histories and stereotypical traits. But it's all secondary to the moe factor.
2) High school AU, they're-all-cats AU, mochi AU, genderbend AU, crossdressing etc. are all CANON.
3) PASTA~~~ Boys boys boys! Less than a dozen (less than ten?) female countries in the whole character line up.

My Hetalia fanon characters:

1) Indonesia
Name: Republik Indonesia (Republic of Indonesia)
Birthday: August 17

Sketch of Indo-kun at 11-12 y.o. Ignore the lines =P

He has black hair and normal eyebrows (That's just the way I draw eyebrows).
When it's damp/humid, his hair becomes curlier/wavier. Considering Indonesia's climate, that means his hair is wavy 98% of the time.

Indo-kun* has a friendly smile but becomes jaded after Japanese occupation. Indo-kun fought under Japanese flag during WWII.
Even though Indo-kun was occupied by the Dutch East Indian Company for centuries, he only knows very random Dutch words. On the other hand, Indonesian cuisine is popular in the Netherlands.
Indo-kun has a love-hate fascination with America-san.

Special item #1: Flip-flops. Indo-kun wears flip-flops even when there's a danger of frostbite.
Special item #2: Guitar. Indo-kun plays in a band and often wins music competitions in S.E. Asia.

* not to be confused with India-san.

2) Malaysia
Name: Malaysia
Birthday: September 16
Malaysia used to be British territory and alternately speaks English, Malay and Mandarin. For some reason when Malay-chan speaks Malay she suddenly doesn't understand Mandarin, and vice versa.
Malay-chan likes to grope Indo-kun's chest because I find a reverse sekuhara (sexual harassment) character amusing. Malay-chan often has sibling-like fights with Indo-kun in which neither pull their punches. They have similar appearances but they're not actual siblings.
Malay-chan keeps things tidy and often complains of Indo-kun's slovenly habits.

3) Singapore
Name: Republic of Singapore
Birthday: August 31
Singapore is a nerd who dresses stylishly and hates to lose. Shin-kun was part of the British territory and was briefly part of the Malay Federation. He speaks English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Malay, etc. sometimes in a single sentence, to everyone's confusion. If you talk for long with him, you end up adopting his mode of speech.
Indo-kun often smuggles bubblegum into Singapore, to Singapore's resentment. Shin-kun has installed surveillance cameras in order to catch Indo-kun littering in front of his apartment.

Hated items: bubblegum and cigarettes
Mascot: A tiger that everyone keeps on mistaking for a lion.

Imaginary AU fanfics for my fanon characters:

- "The weekend where everything changed" (Netherlands/Indonesia, Japan/Indonesia non-con, R, AU)
Netherlands and Indonesia have been friends with occasional benefits for years. It all changed during one weekend trip...

- "O-souji Malaysia" (Malaysia, Singapore, Indo-kun's guitar, G, apartment neighbors AU)
Malay-chan was snooping at Indo-kun's bedroom for some blackmail material. She ended up sorting his laundry instead. Singapore found Indo-kun's stash of bubblegum and confiscated them.
