So, it's done, I'm sitting out nationals this year. Had I been competiting, I would have been in Flordia freaking today... *Sigh* I'm bummed, but what can you really do? I'd rather have my senior season of varsity gymnastics in a way.. and I'll be getting that much back, hopefully.
We're not doing the surgery. I'd need two different kinds of surgeries, two incisions, one to go in and take out the dead bone from the bone chip (which can't be too serious since the doctor didn't pUsH the surgery on me) and another one to literally recostruct my torn ligaments... And the rehab is ridiculous. I'd have be put in a cast for a MONTH, gah, so the ligaments can heal since they'd be sewn back together (eww, how nasty) and then after that, SIX weeks of a removable brace AND THEN 6-8 weeks of physical therapy. I'd CLEARLY miss my last season of varsity gymnastics, so nope, not doing it. The other alternative is physical therapy now, for a month, and if it works, I'm cleared to go back. Obviously, the damage will stay there, I will ALWAYS have pain in my ankle and I will always need my ankle taped, and taped well, from now on. The doctor said I can start going back to gymnastics little by little after about two weeks into the physical therapy if it's feeling better. I'm pretty sure this is going to work for me, just because of how much better my ankle feels already from the little strengthening things I've done at the gym. If it's not feeling better, surgery is then a must, but, I think I'll be fine without the surgery. I pray at least...I'm happy the doctor gave me options, and didn't force any of them on me. I'm glad I'm not losing this part of my life.
It's going to be hard for me to sit and watch my teammates & other girls (other girls also that I should be beating... grr) compete. I'll deal with it, but, it's still going to be hard. I'm glad we're still going down, and whatnot. I'm nervous for all my little chickadees, but they're all more than ready this year. I'm excited to see whose going to win...
Soooo, goodbye Long Island, I'll be back Wednesday. :-)
