I've already told this story many times, but here goes again. Please do not feel obligated to read this, I just like to write because re-capturing my experiences helps me focus and de-stress. That may sound bizarre, but it works.
Yesterday was first practice for CBA play! I'm cast as Mollie Malloy (ironic?maybe, but we'll get to that part later.) Only problem was that I was supposed to be there by three, and no one could pick me up from school. So I had to take the train to Red Bank so Eric could pick me up. The train was supposed to come in a little after three, but I just braced myself for being late- just not that late.
As we come to Long Branch, the train stops. The girls that had walked over to the door to get off sat back down. The lights dimmed. Then a voice comes over the speaker. "We are experiencing some electrical difficulties, the train should be up and running soon."
Eventually I get to Red Bank. As we pull onto CBA's street though, we come up behind a van that reads,"this vehicle stops frequently." Then a school bus got in front of the van. Then another school bus got in front of the school bus. Then as we pull into CBA the cross country boys are taking up the whole road.
I didn't get in any trouble for being late, Ray this year's student director didn't seem to mind and just gave me my script for the read-through they were having. I was very happy to see that old Rumors crowd still in high school were all in the show. The script, though, is a cut and paste job- it looks halfway like the original stage production, half-way the screenplay. It was a bit difficult to read.
What was more entertaining( I don't quite think that's the word) was my character. I play a prostitute- or at least people thinks she is. Let's just get that out in the open. This play will need a little censorship anyway, and I reminded the general public that my Grandma will come see this show. After particularly inappropriate line, we started laughing so hard we couldn't read. Colin threw his fist down and declared between laughter that if that line went, so did he
The whole last name connection and the complete contrast between that profession and my personality leads me to believe that casting had a wry sense of humor. That and the fact that the two that play the engaged couple in the play used to go out with each other. Wednesday was the first time they had spoken to each other since February. They do seem to get along very well though.
Practice was hysterical. After a while the whole ridiculousness of the various situations would suddenly become apparent. Besids, I've missed everyone. I feel like we're starting right where last year left off, except with even more people.
From there we dropped Chris off, ate dinner, changed, and went to NHS. I think this event was more special to my Mom and Grandma than to me at the time. Maybe in hindsight I realize its importance more. Yet the whole night was lovely, everyone looked nice and the services went well. I'm really and truly happy that my Grandma could come to this event. Some of us walked from the Church to the school right behind my family. Debbie-"Is that your Grandma?" Me- "Yes." Debbie-"She's adorable. She looks like the sweetest lady ever." That basically sums up my Grandma.
Then I went home and did homework until about 12:30.
Today (yes this journal entry goes on. I've had caffeine) I went to the football game with Andrew's mom. That's not as bad as it sounds. I actually enjoyed myself. Andrew's dad and little brothers came and joined us. The middle brother is shy, but the little brother's all bubbly. His mom was well prepared for the cold at the game and brought fleeces and extra jackets. Afterwards I went back to his house with his family, and he joined us after getting back to school on the bus and getting his car. It was nice getting to know them better, they all seem really, really nice. We tried to go to Pete and Elda's later, but because of the crowd went to Applebee's. I got to catch up with Andrew. He found out to today that he was first in his class. I told him about NHS. Then I told his that I'm playing a prostitute in a school play. He found that even funnier than I did. (I had told his mom about the show, but not about the character. Somehow I don't want that to be his parents' first impression of me.)
Not too long after my Mom came. Then I came home, and now I'm here.
