We had a tea party this afternoon in honor of Grandma's birthday. It was beautiful September late-summer weather. The table was set under the big tree complete with linens, china tea set, good silver, and roses. My Mom and aunt served tea sandwiches, biscuits, scones, tea-cookies, cheeses, pastry, and of course, tea. It was really beautiful, in this wonderful old-fashioned way.
Meanwhile my Dad was a little disappointed that he had no one to barbecue for but himself. He barbecued anyway.
Right now I can hear the music from someone's Labor Day party as it floats in through the screen window with the sounds of the cicadas and crickets, who are my summer night friends.
