How the hell are they pronouncing it? When me and Ad went to see the stage adaptation, they pronounced it 'Demon'. That was bloody good actually. Amazing puppets and lighting and staging and stuff.
Im anxious about how they are going to do the daemons in this film thing... CGI makes me nervous... It lets me down far too often.
Im totally unhappy about Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, and Nicole Kidman... and yeah. Just all of it. Huffff.
No doubt I'll go see it anyway. But still, Im just. WHY?? WHY, WHY WHY?
I think, the only way I could have been happy with this would have been claymation, and/ or Batman/ Edward Scissorhands era Tim Burton-esque stylings. I think film makers of this certain... Fantasy book adaptation genre are getting stuck in a rut with this particular aesthetic. You know, the Chronicles of Narnia, Lemony Snicket, Harry Potter, Eragon... they all have a vaguely similar look to them. It just would have been nice for the big brains behind His Dark Materials to have deviated from the beaten path.
well, on the website, they kept saying daemon not demon... it states at the front of the book! and there is a kinda image of Lord Asriel's daemon on the website and i fear, alas, CGI
( ... )
I've heard tell of this Simpsons film... It's not live action is it? That would be terrible news.
Also. I agree about the religion thing. I just dont understand why they would do this. Well. I do, I just find it incredibally sad- like you say. In a world that is so fucking hypersensitive about religion and culture, a bit of ficticious criticism would go a long way. Everyone's just so. Guh. I hate it. We're heading towards a fucking Orwellian vision of cencorship and ridiculousness. Did you see that thing about the Adult Swim stickers in Boston? Yeah. Case in point.
Next thing you know, they'll be re-issuing the Dark Materials books with cinematic covers, omitting the entire religious theme. I cant imagine how it will work without the church aspect (I love how all their daemons are reptiles. AWESOME)... Will they just make Mrs Coultier/ Lord Asriel the out and out baddies? Too black and white for me. We need dimension!!
The simpsons film isn't live action (THANK GOD!) but i don't know what they are going to do. what can they possibly do??? haven't they used up every single story line...? isn't that why the simpsons is so shit now... (blasphamy!!!)
The Adult Swim thing was kinda worrying... how the hell does anyone mix up one of those flashing signs to a bomb? but that's America (and maybe the world) nowadays. There's a brilliant scene in this film called Crank that highlights this perfectly. to steal a taxi, the hero pulls the arab driver out and starts pointing at him shouting " al-Qaeda!" and the seemingly normal crowd beat the shit out of him. at the time, it's pretty funny, but it makes a good point.
And you know for a fact, we'll be seeing Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman face covering the books... they might even change the name on the books too.
It looks.
Horrible.
Oh man.
WHY? WHY? WHY?
