Hmm. Its been a while. At the moment, I am home sick on my few precious days off, it always seems to happen that way. I love autumn and looking at it out my window, and I'm finding this ill weekend a great excuse to start my reading for next semester. I'm taking a course on American women's biography in the long nineteenth century. Its funny to be focusing on American history just when I've been able to "successfully" move to England to pursue British/European topics, but the words "biography" "women's" and "nineteenth century" were simply too applicable to pass up, and I am already mapping out so much American history in my mind that I had passed over. My favorite pieces for the course so far at the stories compiled from letters and diaries left behind by unknown women, and how their experiences show their personalities and the movements of history. Irresistible.
I've been working on my own writing quite hard and feel that I am learning a lot from my time in my MA, and also learning more about my subjects. I'm working on PhD applications; it would be amazing to spend 3 more years writing and studying, getting to teach about what I love, hopefully write a book. We shall see if they take me! I've had so many papers due that I have not really worked on the applications, but hopefully before the holidays and my final essays I can squeeze it in.
If I didn't have a lovely home right now I think that all of these things would be stressing me out (in addition to working a bit too much at my job) but nesting in Balham in this home is so helpful.
