At lunchtime today we went to look at a house. It's on the same side of town, about 3 minutes drive from here, but it is SOOOOOOOOOOO much nicer then here!
This place is kinda shitty, but for what we pay, it's great!
However, this new one, it is $80 more per week, but it's got an extra bedroom, an extra living room, twice the garage space, and is generally larger overall. And it's nicer. The curtains are newer, and the carpet is nice.
Not so nice I'd be scared to put the babies on the floor, but nice enough.
We said we'd take it, so we just have to hear back from them tonight as to whether they want to give it to us or to someone else.
We have a good chance. They said they had two other groups interested in it, one a single woman with 3 kids and one another single woman with 4 kids (and she didn't even look at it, her brother was there looking on her behlaf so...) and they said to us (please no one get offended by this!) that they would rather a couple with two kids than a single woman with 3 or 4.
I'll try to explain their reasoning. Generally here, single women with children are on government support, and that's not a lot. Most of them don't have any motivation to work, so they sit on the benefit. What they get isn't much more than enough to get by, and as such a lot have trouble paying their rent, and more than I like to think about flitter from place to place never paying rent, and staying in one place as long as until they get evicted, then moving to the next. Most landlords like a little more stability than that.
I hope no one is offended, but that's just the way it goes here.
I hope we get it, but if not, there'll be another place. Maybe not straight awy, but eventually we will find another place as nice in our price range. While I like it here, it's just getting too small. We should hear from them tonight, either way.
I gotta go unload the dishwasher now.
