Something. Chapter 5.

Nov 10, 2011 22:44

Oh well, earlier finished with chap. 5 than I thought. It could be longer, though, I think. But I made the cut here, so the next chapter is going to be long enough. I don't think there'll be following a lot more chapters. Definitely one, maybe even two more chapters, and then we are at the end. Then I'll concentrate on my other stories... :)
So, I hope you like it....

Oh, and I hope the editing went relatively good. I don't know why, but LJ is messing up with my writing programm. Or the other way round. or anyway. I don't know. I hope you'll enjoy it anyway. :)

Later that night Miranda and Andy sat comfortably on a couch in Mirandas study, a glass of wine each at a small table in front of them.

The twins had went upstairs to finish their homework after dinner, so the two adults were left alone. They hadn't talked about IT yet. It, being the phone call with Andys parents that noon.

But the young journalist knew that Miranda wanted to know but didn't dare ask so far. She sighed silently and then began talking.

*

“It's alright, Andy. Just say it. That's the easiest way.”

“I know... I'm in love with someone. I'm in love with a woman.”

There was silence at the other end of the line for a few seconds that felt like it stretched like hours.

“With a woman.” her mother said quietly.

“Yes, mom. You sort of know her, I worked for her a few months back. It's Miranda. Miranda Priestly.”

Again, there was silence for a few seconds before a sharp intake of breath could be heard.

“Miranda Priestly? I don't care who it is. And if you had an affair with the first lady! I. Don't. Care. You can't be in love  with a woman, Andrea Sachs. That's not the nature, that's not how God meant us to be. You are ridiculous and pathetic.”

That was it. Andy had known. She tried to hold back the tears and bit down hard on her lower lip to stop the sob that was coming.

“But I am, mom. I'm in love with her, and she is, too. We are happy. We love each other dee-”

“NO! Stop it! You can't! You simply can't! That's so wrong! You are wrong. How could you... - How could I - What did I do that was so wrong that planted that thought into your little brain you could fall in love with a woman? Because you can't, you shouldn't you are not allowed-”

“Now it's you who should stop! You are insulting your own daughter!”

“No, Andrea.” her mother said and Andy thought her name sounded so wrong out of her mothers mouth.

“You are not my daughter any longer. My daughter wouldn't have fallen for a woman. My daughter wouldn't have left her boyfriend and she wouldn't have put work and a woman over him. No, Andrea. You are not my daughter.”

Now Andy didn't even try to stop the tears and sobs any more. Instead she simply hung up and cried until no more tears came. Then she called Miranda.

*

The white haired woman had tears in her eyes but they didn't fall. She didn't like her poor Andrea to suffer from words like this, not at all, because they stung. She could never say something like that to her own daughters and she couldn't really believe that there where any parents who could say something like that to their own kids just because the fell in love with someone of their own gender.

She hugged Andy tightly to herself, the girl was crying again.

“I love you, Andrea...” where the only words that seemed to come to her mind, along with few other soothing words.

As Andy had calmed down she asked in whisper: “You still think they'll get over it?”

Miranda didn't answer immediately. She wasn't sure.

“I hope for you and for them that they'll accept your feelings, our feelings.” she said carefully.

“What if they don't?” came again a whisper.

Miranda thoughtfully combed lovingly through Andreas hair.
“I'm afraid we'll have to live with that. Or...” she trailed of. Afraid of the thought that had came into her mind, again.

“Or?” Andy asked and inhaled deeply the comforting smell of Miranda, not aware of the other woman's fear.

“Or... you could... avoid.. all of the anger with your parents by … breaking -”

She was interrupted by Andy, who shot up, already guessing what Miranda was about to say.

“Don't you dare say something like that. Don't you dare even thinking that!” she growled.

The editor could see a lot of different emotions in her lovers eyes. Hurt and pain, anger and most of all, love and honesty.

“Miranda Priestly. I love you. And as much as my parents hurt me today... I wouldn't bear leaving you again just so they are okay with me. My trust in them is broken. I still love them, they are my parents, after all. But for me, there's no going back there. Do you hear me? I love you and I won't leave you. Not for their sake, not for any one else. I know what you are thinking. I can guess. Forget it. Okay?”

Miranda closed her eyes. She dearly wanted to believe her and searched in her heart if there where any doubts left after those heartfelt words from her partner.
But there weren't. She believed her.

“I love you, Andrea. I couldn't bear it if I'd lose you...” she whispered in way of explanation, opening her eyes again just to find her eyes level with Andys.

“The same for me, Miranda. So... let's forget about my parents. I don't want to... I...” she trailed off, not knowing how to say what she wanted to say.

Miranda waited patiently.
“I want to start my life anew, with the girls and you as my new family, if you let me...” she said, looking down on her hands.

“I would not want it any other way, Andrea.”

After that fateful day, Miranda and Andy began to give hints to the press... And a week later, the first head-line appeared.

“The 'Ice Queen' seems dating again - Who's the next Mr. Priestly?”

The twins laughed loudly as they read it on monday morning, spread over Page Six, and instantly called Andy. Their Mom was still upstairs and still oblivious to the fact that the press had finally caught wind of them.

Together they laughed about the paparazzi which had tried to get a photo of them, but failed. It was always only just Miranda. A smiling Miranda, by the way.

As the editor came into the kitchen she looked at her daughters questioningly, as they were sitting at the table, their bowls with cereals in front of them, as well as their shared cell phone and a newspaper.

“Girls” she interrupted, just to be greeted not only by them, but as well by another voice she'd never tire of hearing.

“Morning mom!”

“Good Morning, Miranda” was what came over the phone's speaker and made Miranda smile.

“Mom, you need to read what Page Six wrote...” Cassidy said with a grin.
“... they are being ridiculous.” Caroline finished with a glare like Mirandas own.

“Girls, can you hand your cell to your Mom? I'd like to speak with her.” Andy said over the phone and the twins immediately obeyed, and even leaving them alone.

“Good morning, darling.” Miranda said in a gentle tone.
“Morning beautiful. How did you sleep?”

“Fine, thank you. But not as good as last night...”

Andy laughed quietly. “I know...”

“Why did you ask, then?” Miranda asked back, using her Runway - voice. That made her lover laugh hardly.

While her Andrea still needed time to calm herself down again, Miranda searched through the article.

“They didn't get a picture of you or of the two of us...” she said.

“Yeah, and they made a man out of me...” Andy mock-complained.

“That would only be with my responsibility, darling” Miranda said seriously. Andy laughed again.

“See you for lunch today, right?”

“Yes. 11.30, sharp.”

“Aye, Ma'am” Andy said and grinned, Miranda could picture.

“I love you...” was then whispered and returned just the same.

“See you later, love.”

The editor-in-chief of Runway sat busy behind her desk, scanning through the layouts for the next issue.

“Miranda.” her first assistant stepped into her office. She looked up and glared at her over the rim of her glasses.

“There are the Blackberries you wanted.” Emily said and laid a relatively big package down on Mirandas desk. Mirandas eyebrow rose in question. She remembered that she had told Emily to forget about them. Obviously, Emily hadn't, which wasn't that bad, as she still needed them. She just had forgotten that she would need to order them anew. She pursed her lips to conceal the beginning of a small smile and nodded once.

“Clarísse's assistant confirmed lunch for today. She informed me that Karl will be joining you, as she is his protégée.”

Miranda pursed her lips again. This time to hide her anger. Lunch. She had forgotten about lunch with Clarísse. And that made her angry about herself.

“Close the door behind you. That's all.” she said quietly. She needed to think and then make a phone call.

While Emily hurriedly walked out of her office, silently closing the door behind her, an idea already formed in Mirandas head.
