I resorted to the bottle (wine) last night after a day to forget. Often.
I gave in and ordered the box set of Primeval instead of waiting for it to be reduced to el cheapo status. Apart from that my current pre-orders consists of classic films (to be replaced from off-air VHS). Forbidden Planet (now over a year late), Things to Come and The Thing from Another World. However, I have given in to Region 1 temptation in respect of the The Prisoner of Zenda which has the b/w and colour versions in the same set for a lovely cheap price. Yummy. There is no sign of this arriving in the UK.
In fact, the policy in respect of the UK releases confuses me totally. Shows like Rat Patrol (laughed off the BBC after about six episodes back in the 60s and not repeated) and Black Sheep Squadron (shown late at night as a filler in a few ITV areas long after its original US release) are available in the UK in box sets. The (as I understand it) superior Combat! which never had a UK release, has not been released on DVD over here either, though it probably would have a better audience. My beloved Garrison's Gorillas which had a prime time showing in this country on first release, and repeats as late as the early 90s (which some of my videos date from) have not been published on DVD either here or in the States. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea which had original prime time releases in the UK and more repeats than you can shake a stick at is not yet scheduled for UK release.
Go figure.
