what a day! yikes.
i had so many wacky experiences with people today. for instance, my first patient had broken a tooth. usually, if a tooth gets broken, we crown it. but no, not for this patient. he actually brought the tooth with him to find out if the doctor could cement it back on. now that's someone who wants to save a buck or two. i mean, teeth are alive, and that part of his is clearly DEAD now, and he wants it to be put back on. for those of you out there who are saying 'yea, who cares' to themselves right now should know that once a tooth dies, it get really brittle and will probably break again, if not get all decayed and stuff. right. then, while the whole office was chillin out, i did a bunch of conformation calls for them. whee. this one lady got all snotty on me at told me at least three times, "well, you know it IS supposed to be treacherous out tomorrow". no shit, sherlock. and to top it off, i got sick and tired of the receptionist not bothering to tell me if my patient had come. grr.
on a more interesting note...i had a deaf patient today. we did most of our communications via pencil and paper, but i did sign the few things i know. you know, like 'my name is eileen' and 'nice to meet you'. i felt really good when she commended the explanation i gave her via pictures about why she was having some sensitivity and what the doctor would do about it.
also. i must tell you of the horribly bad pun i made (this is for and about you bob). i was telling my patient about my multi-talented boyfriend with his array of interests and his funny extroverted personality. then i said, "yep, he's quite a card." get it? magic, quite a card......yea. so that's my bad pun of the day.
now, to the icky stuff. i hit my head five times today. not softly either. twice on the x-ray machine (once on the head, once on the arm) and three times on the light machine. i hit my elbow on the side of the counter, and then at home i banged my right wrist so hard on the bone that the skin came off. ugh. i'm SO spatially unaware.
report card in: damage minimal. actually damage non-existent. i feel bad, cuz i know there are those of you like bob who have a class they're really worried about, but i feel so GOOD! (finally something good today)
lastly, the most current adventure. my dad's car is dead. as in it won't start. the power is ok, but the car just won't start. my dada thinks someone poured sand in his gas tank. i told him if he'd stop hangin out with gang-bangin-drug-sellin-mafia folks, he wouldn't have this problem. he grudgingly agreed that i was right. anyways, we had to push the car from in front of our house into the drive way in preparation for bad weather snow plowers tomorrow. the plan was i'd back the car in the driveway while my dad and brother pushed. now, for all of you who haven't seen my house (which is for intents and purposes, all of you) my drive way has an incline. so we get the car aligned ok, but about 1/4-1/3 up the drive way, my brother and my dad can't push it anymore. so they try again. and again. i think it was three times (but it may have only been twice). now, consider in the back of your mind that through all this, they are making all kinds of grunting noises and the car is really just crawling. so i came up with the plan that we'd let the car roll back down yet again into the starting position, and then i'd get out help them push it into place and then jump back in the car and put on the breaks. so i get out and help, and the car easily goes into position, first try. it wasn't even that hard. we got it really rolling too, so the hill wasn't even so bad. i know it was all me, and that my skills is what got the job done. and i scoff at anyone who might happen to point out that when i was pushing there was no other bodily weight in the car. i believe it worked so well cuz i pushed correctly, using my body weight along with my musculature--instead of just my muscles.
tonight, i plan on watching the 2-hour season premiere of ALIAS---YAY!!!!!! it's at nine, for anyone else who's interested.
and now, after my hugely long post, i will retire.
