A list of frequently asked questions that I made up in my brain, or based off questions I've asked other icon makers, or questions in general. I also got help (unknowingly, actually), from
teh_indy,
fightstarr, and other graphics/icon journals that I frequent.
Where are the rules? Do I have to credit you? How do I credit you? May I friend you? Can we be affiliates? What font is that? Where'd you get your images? Do you write tutorials? May I post up your icons somewhere other than livejournal? Will you help me with my layout? Do you take requests? Will you give me your overrides? Can I link you? Can I customize your icons? How come I can't comment? Can I nominate your icons? How do you do this? What programs do you use? Where can I find your old entries? Can you make me something? Why didn't you reply to my comment? Why don't you have image packs for your brushes? Do I have to comment you when I take something? What's hot-linking? What else?Where are the rules?
It's all in
this post.
Do I have to credit you?
Yes, if you please. If you're afraid of forgetting where can icon is from, do me (and every other icon maker in the world) a favor: when saving your icons, place the maker's name as the file name.
How do I credit you?
When you're uploading your icon at livejournal, in the text field that says "Keywords" you should put "jellyfeet" or "aert" - whichever suits your fancy. Or, under the text field of "Comments", put
aert or
jellyfeet - it does not matter where you credit me to, just as long as you credit me.
May I friend you?
Sure you can! There's no guarantee that I'll add you back, however.
Can we be affiliates?
Of course! Leave a comment at
this post.
What font is that?
Ask me in the post with the icon number and I'll try to decipher it for you. If I can't, you could probably browse through one of the
resources under "Fonts" and find it, or something similar to it. If you give up on that, go to
fontaddicts - they're pure geniuses over there, and basically know everything. Just make sure to save and upload the icon that you wish to question about to your own server: no hot-linking!
Where'd you get your images?
Unless there's a myriad of icons/graphics/goodies in one post, I normally post where I got the images, unless I forget. If I forget, then there's half and half a chance of it being under my
resources. If it's not there, I'm awfully sorry. Google it or something. But normally, all the places where I find my images are either under
resources or is listed specifically in the post with the icons (i.e., for a moodtheme, where I got the screencaps, or a general site.)
Do you write tutorials?
As of right now (one day after opening this beloved junkyard), no. Perhaps, if I feel the need to, I will (and also post it at
elite_tutorial or another community like so) in case I really liked one icon that I made and am afraid I'll forget how I did it. If somebody requests it - maybe, just maybe, if I'm not too busy and they don't piss me off, I will. At the most, it'll be for icons, not anything bigger than that.
May I post up your icons somewhere other than livejournal?
Yes, but under certain conditions. You must credit me - just say so casually, or as a note on the bottom of the page, or if you were to use it on a message board, put it in your signature: but ALWAYS, always save it and upload it to your own server. And under no circumstances can you claim it as your own or redistribute them.
Will you help me with my layout?
No - coding my own livejournal and this community is hard enough whenever I bother changing the look, and I get frustrated and am preoccupied for hours on end, so the chance of me helping you is slim to none. I do it for offline friends, however. I may post up several overrides that I found amazingly helpful, however, though. And, there are two places with the most amazing overrides in the world:
faceon and
reversescollide.
Will you give me your overrides?
No. I may post up a portion here and there, but for the most part, refer to the two amazing ladies above.
Do you take requests?
Maybe once in a blue moon I'll open up a post that lets the first 10 comment have a custom set of icons or one super special one, but usually, no. No offense to anybody - it's just that life is a big priority. And schoolwork. (In other words, life = school.) And it's very busying, so... committments are normally one thing that I cannot make during the school year where at any given point I may drown in my homework.
Can I link you?
Sure you can! In fact, I'd be eternally grateful if you did. I'd probably even make you your own special icon - just read: probably. I probably would eventually, but I wouldn't be able to give you a certain date or anything. You can refer to the buttons (if they're there) in various posts, just click
here.
Can I customize your icons?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Unless they're actually labeled "customizable" or "bases" - you cannot edit anything that I post in this journal. You cannot edit anything and redistribute it as your own. You cannot edit, period, even if you credit me. Just don't edit. Save it and keep in mind that's the final product, unless I state otherwise in the post.
How come I can't comment?
You pissed me off.
Can I nominate your icons?
Yes, just let me know. And don't do the hot-linking thing.
How do you do...?
Ask me that in the post you're questioning and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.
What programs do you use?
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS.
Where can I find your old entries?
Search through the memories, or keep on going "back," or check the calendar. Or find the specific tag in
all tags.
Can you make me something?
Probably not, but we'll see in summer. Yeah, most definitely. I'll put up random request forms when I get enough watchers. :)
Why didn't you reply to my comment?
It probably didn't really need replying to (I only reply to questions, basically, or compliments that make me blush, or comments of those I know), or was just one of those "I'm taking blah, blah, blah," - those aren't really "replyable."
Why don't you have image packs for your brushes?
Because I don't know how to make them, nor do I have the time to, if I learn. (Plus, I'm also selfish.)
Do I have to comment you when I take something?
YES. Please. It's really not that hard, just say, "I'm taking ___." If you're a newcomer, it's not neccessary to comment on every single post that you're going to take something from - generally, just list the post # and the icon # and that will suffice.
What's hot-linking?
Take the time to read
this.
