Believers Never Die II Tour - Pompano Beach, FL - 4/21/09
Hey Monday, Cobra Starship, Metro Station, All Time Low and Fall Out Boy
Pre-Show
First, I need to vent a little.
The Early Entry situation for this show was absolutely the worst I've ever heard of or experienced. There were only FIVE people in line when we got there in the morning and then in all just degenerated into badness. All the M&G people were let into the pit after they were done instead of having to come back outside and then security tried to tell us our line was just GA since Early Entry was already inside. Which, no. Obviously not, since we were CLEARLY on the not-inside side of the fence. And then the place where they told us to stand all day was NOT where they ended up letting us in (over an hour late), so they effectively started with the middle of the EE line instead of the front where we were. Since everyone was so mad and frustrated by then, there was so much pushing and awfulness before we even got inside. UGH.
It was an amphitheater with a very small pit area (maybe 10-ish rows deep?)and then lots of open GA seating. Since the pit was already about 4-5 rows deep with M&G people when I got inside (GRRRR), I opted for seats. I picked the center of the third row, which ended up being PERFECT, since it was the closest I could get while still being able to see over the heads of the people in the pit. \o/
Hey Monday
It had been a hot, weird day and especially with the frustration and near-violence surrounding EE, I sadly ended up having to spend most of Hey Monday's set hitting the restroom and getting water and such. But what I did catch was utterly charming. Not that I ever disliked them, but before I was more... indifferent? And now they are growing on me by leaps and bounds. Also, since it was an amphitheater with nothing blocking the side/backstage areas and also it was early enough that the sun was still out, we could see the Cobras, Trace and Pete rocking out sidestage for all or part of their last few songs. ♥
Cobras, sidestage during Hey Monday.
The only pic of Hey Monday I took that came out.
Cobra Starship
This night was my favorite time seeing Cobra Starship EVER. The sun was still up and also the pit was so small with the raised seating so close, that I think the combination of those things made them even more audience interactive than they usually are since they could see more of us. Some things:
Gabe was having so much fun. This tour is clearly the best time he's ever had onstage; he even said the tour was like going to summer camp with all of his best friends. I got the impression this goes for the rest of his band, too. And probably everyone else on this tour. ♥
Ryland and Alex are from Boca Raton (
family dinner!), so their parents were at the show. Ryland's mom and dad were pointed out sidestage. His mom was so adorable, with her big sunglasses, singing and bopping along. Gabe thanked them for being ok with his career choice -he said Ryland used to have to cut his hair when he went home- and turned it into a little speech to the kids in the crowd about never letting anyone tell them they can't do anything they want to do with their lives. <3
Right as Gabe was teaching the crowd how to put their fangs up, Pete came onstage in the Cobra's new Thriller hoodie (sleeves zipped off, hood up). Gabe put his arm around Pete and together they heckled at a mom until she threw up the fangs. Neither of them could stop smiling stupidly. I took a picture and some video:
I LOVE THEM.
Fangs up! (Also, way to not swear onstage, Pete. Oops?) (Also also, watch in HQ, it's better!)

Metro Station
Metro Station's music is just so damn catchy so I was excited to dance along, especially when they played Kelsey because it's my favorite. But I was sad to see that their stage show has changed drastically since I last saw them several months ago. It's now pretty much The Trace Cyrus Show, and that made me kind of sad. Also uncool was when Trace announced how very, very sick he was and then proceeded to take a drink of water and spit all over the crowd. Um, WTF EW.
Trace and Mason.
Gabe came out to sing with them.
All Time Low
I hadn't eaten since about 1:00 that day, so I went to get food and more water during some of All Time Low. I'd never heard them or even heard of them before, really, but from what I did see, they were good and very entertaining.
Because it was an outdoor venue, I guess the city regulations made them all limit how much they cursed onstage. Alex told us all about how sad that made him and then decided that WE wouldn't get in trouble for swearing, so he counted to three and everyone swore. Ahahaa ♥. A little later on after Jack came out into the crowd to play, when he went back onstage one of them (Alex or Jack, I can't remember?) said, "That was hot. It made me want to B my L on someone's Ts. Can I say that?" UGH, the lolarity.
I was informed by the signs carried by several teenage girls beside and behind me that that day was Zack the bassist's birthday and Alex forgot to mention it on stage (he said sorry the next night at the show). Zack also spend the entire set shirtless with his pink bass.
This is, hilariously and hot-ly, my only pic of them that came out really well.
Also, kind of this one.
Fall Out Boy
Before I begin, for those that don't know me well, I'm a little Patrick-fixated and it'll show. I don't always start out to be, but then he's there and I get heart-shaped tunnel vision. THIS CANNOT BE HELPED. *HANDS*
UGH THIS BAND. All three of my previous FOB shows were spend being more preoccupied with staying upright and trying not to be crushed to death than fully focusing on the band. So this show was my first time truly experiencing them and they were amazing. Also, I think they're just better on this tour. They sounded better as a band, the acoustics and mixing were better a few songs in, Patrick's vocals were the best I've EVER heard live or in a live recording. They're all over-the-moon happier than they've pretty much ever been musically and in their lives and it shows. And Patrick seems much more relaxed and confident and mobile onstage, which has a pretty huge impact on their show alone.
Also, ALSO! Patrick wore his glasses on stage! Not the new ones; the black-rimmed older ones, but still. This is a total novelty, if not a very very rare occurrence. It's definitely the first time I've ever seen or heard of it happening. He was constantly looking around at the crowd, making (albeit fleeting, because he's still Patrick) eye contact everywhere. UNFGH. PATRICK STUMP.
Recall earlier in this recap about the ATL boys complaining about not being able to curse because of the city's outdoor venue rules? In the middle of the show, Pete glances down at his setlist and says in his hilarious deadpan (think: "You can't download a baby."), "So there's a sign taped to the floor here that says No f-ing swearing, Pete." And then I was like ♥_♥. He continues: "But YOU won't get in trouble, so let's try something. MOTHER!" And we all yell, "FUCKER!", of course. Pete: "SON OF A!" Us: "BITCH!" Pete: "DANCE!" Us: ...??? And then they begin to play Dance Dance and we say ohhhhh.
Pretty much everything else is a giant mess of SDGSLKDHGLKSHDGKEYMASH in my brain, so on to some of my better pics and video!
Lots of videos. Here's where my Patrick tunnel vision is clearly evident. Oops? Also, watch in HQ, it's better.

Hopefully sometime tomorrow I'll post my much shorter and sadly less pic/video heavy recap of the Orlando show the following night, 4/22.
