Anime: Wrong demographic! Too gay for guys.

Man, how many animes have I looked up on Wikipedia listed as "shounen" that have no male fan following?

First, let's take the dubbed version of Cardcaptor Sakura; one of the most collossal screw-ups in dubbing history. Sakura is undoubtedly shoujo, but when I emailed the company about their many errors, a representitive actualy told me that they edited the series to make Shyao-ran look like the lead character & were targeting a young male audience. They also cut out the gay overtones between Touya & Yuukito, Tomoyo's & her mom's lesbianism, & any references to teachers dating students, not to mention changing everyone's names & replacing the music.

Saiyuki, & I don't mean the Patalliro one. Saiyuki is listed as SHounen. It has a very very small male fan following, mostly due to the manga's past as a BL mangaka & the overall seething gayness of the relationships between all of the men. In Gensoumaned there were women & breasts & nudity, but all of that was absent in Reload & Gunlock. Hell, the series went from action/comedy to a washed-down action comedy, not unlike Full Metal Panic Fumoffu compared to Full Metal Panic. The doujinshi speaks for itself; the ratio of yaoi to hentai DJs is overwhelming & yuri is basicly impossible. There's no end to the pairing possibilities in this series, because they all work.

Slayers. Perhaps the original Slayers movies, OAVS, & mangas with Nahga were shounen, but this is a series about a flat-chested, unsexy lording bitch traveling with a few beautiful men wo cower in fear of her temper, & that's why women lover her. She's all-powerful, she doesn't need a man to save her. There's really no manly character guys could relate to, unless they want to be associated with an idiot. There's also a little crossdressing in the series too, & absolutely no ecchi. Hell, most of the women wear pants.

Master of Mosquiton 99. Inaho is exactly like Lina from Slayers, if you remove the magic & the appetite. Give the magic to Gourrey & make him a vampire, & you have Mosquiton. He's a prettyboy vampire who has willingly made himself a slave to the reincarnation of a girl he used to date, & she treats him like a dog. After all, SHE is the Master the title is talking about. I figure that wolf chick was just thrown in to keep the male vieweers happy. The Mosquiton movies were deffinately shounen though, but they're parallel universe.

GetBackers. The manga aknowledged that the team working on the series knew that they had female readers, so they openly aimed to please both, but the anime toned down the female sexiness big times & super-amped the gay overtones. You could say that the manga is for boys & the anime is for girls. There's basicly no disputing the relationship between Kadzuki & Juubei, which a former ally of theirs seemed jealous of. Genji is rather obsessed with Ban & is rather attention-needy. Akabane seems quite interested in Ginji in several creepy ways.

Hunter x Hunter. Perhaps Togashi just has a really flowery idealism on friendship that boarders on creepy, but HxH is oozing with gay overtones & except for a brief showing of Menchi, a few unfrienly girls from the Spider Troup who show up on occasions, & the akward presence of Bisque/Biscuit; the old granny who sometimes looks like a child & really looks like Mr. Universe, there are no women in this series at all. It's also heavily implied that Hisoka; the biggest piece if eyecandy in the series, is a pedophile. Kurapica acts like Leorio's wife, & Killua absolutely obsesses over Gon.
