[It was a long day. A very long day. Between the posting of Chief Resident, her sister almost getting fired, spending HOURS telling families that their loved ones were dead, and Mark...it was a long day.
As heartbreaking as it was, there was something about seeing all of those families rally around the little girl and her mother that shot through her. A feeling of hope. And she finally told Mark to go away. No, she wasn't tempted to go back to him. Not when she had Sam. But telling him off was something that she had been scared to do, and she did it. And she felt....free.
She walks through the front door and closes it behind herself, leaning back against it with closed eyes and a sigh. She takes a deep breath, then walks into the bedroom to find Sam. She steps into the room and waits for him to look up, and immediately starts talking. Slowly.]
You see...the ugliest of humanity all of the time. You see what isn't even humanity. Some days when I see bad, ugly things...I remind myself how much worse the things are that you see and deal with, and-
[steps closer to the bed, her face lighting up a bit. She didn't have this speech planned, it's just falling off her lips.]
I saw the beauty in humanity today, Sam. And I wish I could have shown it to you, because...it was beautiful. And...I-
[Despite the beauty, there was still so much emotion in her day, and right then it catches up to her in a wave. It hits her and she crumbles, spilling forward onto the bed, and into his arms.]
