[ It's only slightlyunsettling to wake up with an unfamiliar lady calling you 'dear,' finding a little girl calling him 'daddy' next was the real kicker. As if Ron could ever spawn a child that looked like that. Actually, come to think of it, why was he even at that house and waking up in that bed anyways? Wasn't he last thrown into a dungeon of ( Read more... )

Is that your normal speaking tone? It's remarkable. Hmm, maybe you're some kind of elephant that has been ... I'm sorry, I think my speculations have gotten out of control.

Ah, but apologies. Please, call me Sasaki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

SASAKI, WHERE ARE MY FRIENDS AND MY MOTHER?

I see, so it really is your normal tone...

You haven't told me who you are, so I don't know who your friends or your mother are.

MY WHAT? THERE IS NO TONE!

Shouldn't you know? Aren't you one of the kidnappers?

Your voice. It's very loud. It's actually somewhat annoying, I'm sorry to say.

No, I'm a fellow victim. Are you sure that your friends are here?

WELL EXCUUUUSE, ME.

...I don't have to yell, do I?

How are you a victim if you can answer questions? I just spoke to one of them, unless that person was using a false voice, I'm pretty sure at least one of my friends are here.

Oh. That isn't how you always speak, then. Yes, that's a perfectly acceptable noise level, though I suppose you could have waited to see whether my eardrum ruptured.

We, the victims, are more or less free to do as we want, within the confines of this space.

Of course, it isn't! This is a telephone, you have to enunciate loudly.

So, is your eardrum ruptured?

And I'm not somebody's pet, I'm definitely getting out of here.

You really don't have to do that. My eardrum is fine for the moment, thank you very much.

Ah... your friends haven't been able to do so yet. Nor have people who are very powerful in their home worlds, so I don't know how you will manage that. I should mention that the evidence seems to suggest that this place is some kind of virtual reality.

Well, if you ever need it.

How would you know my friends haven't be able to yet? [ suspicious Ron is suspicious. ] They could be talking to me from out of town. Aren't these telephones supposed to reach across cities if you're loud enough? And what evidence is this you're talking about?

Who are you?

No one has been able to escape. It's an assumption. There is no 'out of town' accessible from here, so they are most likely to be people I've heard from already.

As for evidence, I'm talking about all the events that I've been told about and a few that I've experienced. For example, those who are killed come back to life the next morning; they have shown the ability to radically change the environment without ill effects or unintended side effects.

My name is Sasaki, I'm pleased to meet you. I am just a normal high school student.

Just, there's no way.

In the real world, correct. However, the residents of Mayfield have seen this kind of thing happen. Either our perceptions are being tricked, or the real world has become extremely different.

I'm betting it's the former. The other evidence seems to narrow it down somewhat from there.

So this isn't the real world? Where are we then?
