yay for half-days. now, before i sit down for hours in front of my personal statement for grad school...
weird but nice weekend. i didn't do much for myself, but eh.
friday, i skipped out of work early for a really great interview at an elementary school down in hyde park. it's for a second grade teaching position and i would die of happiness if i got it. i'm feeling really disillusioned with my current job and am really hoping i get offered something better. i should hear by tomorrow. i feel like it was my best interview ever and they were actually impressed with everything i've done so far...they loved my portfolio.
on a tangential note about my current job, the teachers and administration really do treat the TAs like poop. after several fuckups regarding my pay and scheduling, i've kind of decided to make my own schedule this summer and just started painting a mural in the classroom. i'll take pictures when it's done. i'm pissed at most of the teachers because they are asking me to follow through on decisions that they made without input from the TAs, like design syllabi for several classes in the fall that i probably won't be teaching. the one female teacher who is here only for the summer cornered me today and asked me to design a class about MAKEUP from the materials that she was collecting and proceeded to blather on for ten minutes about makeup assuming that i was interested. she was appealing to me because i was female and presumably was more interested in makeup than the two male teachers. wrong. i don't get paid $11.50/hour to write the curriculum that you are paid to do. sorry. just because i can, doesn't mean i will.
ahem. anyway, friday night dan came down and we went to chicago diner for a very late dinner, and i drove out to crystal lake to get up for a garden walk with my mom saturday morning. we saw lots of flowers, it was nice. it's like one of two things my mom and i can do together: 1) look at flowers, 2) look at antiques. then i drove all the way to highland park to mentor christina and go to our art class. now christina had been saying for weeks that she can only draw from pictures, but i pushed her to do this AND SHE DID AWESOME. the teacher is so sweet to her and christina just glows with pride. she insisted on taking her painting home and finishing it over the weekend. i have a bit of a dilemma this saturday though...i really don't want to miss most of saturday at intonation fest, but i know that christina really wants to go to her class. i still have to figure something out : (
yesterday was devoted to my car <3 i got my first oil change (6000 miles woot), hand-washed it, two coats of wax, vacuumed, etc. it looks small in a sentence but it took all god-damned day. and a girly car care tip to everyone: loofah gloves. they cleaned off all the oil spots without scratching, and got all the crevices in my wheels. really, try them. on a celebratory joy-ride i spotted a real treasure by the side of the road: a bright yellow 9" TV straight out of the 70s. it's too cute, and it works. so now, inside my car you will find: a 10 lb. bag of pea gravel, six 18" x 24" canvasses, two 18" x 24" sketch pads, two pots of fake daisies, and a yellow 9" TV.
ok, i need to go return my library books. hope you had a nice weekend.
