Dear Phil,
I don't know if our relationship really qualifies for this, since it's not that we were ever terribly close to begin with. But I know you're hurt that I chose to stay here instead of coming to Cleveland, and I know we haven't really spoken much since I made that decision.
I hope you know I still love you. And though I can't be the stepdaughter you want, I hope you don't think that means I don't want to be your stepdaughter at all.
