Sisterly love

For any of you who've seen myself and skye together, you know that we're very close. We are sisters but, more importantly, we are best friends and when we have the chance to go out alone together we party. We talk and laugh and if we are really excited to go somewhere we hold hands and kind of skip there. When we play DDR we laugh and hug when our game is over. I've never really thought about what that might look like to others. I mean were sisters we're allowed to hug and stuff. Now that I think about it we're also both the perfect height for her to put her arm around my shoulder and for me to put my arm around her waist, kind of like a couple. But again we're sisters: we're allowed to be close.

AAAAAAAnyways skye and I went out last night to play some DDR in downtown Salt Lake City. We haven't seen each other in a while so I guess we were a bit more clingy. We laughed and talked and told stories and hugged. While we were there we meet some people who reminded me of a few people from Colorado (I guess DDR just attracts a certain type of person) and so we talked to them too.

We were there for about an hour when one of the boys came over to us after we finished a game of Air Hockey (I won. I tossed her like she was salad. Sorry, inside joke.) and this is what proceeded to happen:

guy: *looking shy and unsure of himself* Um, can I ask you a very forward question?

skye and myself: Sure.

guy: *looking more eager* No. I mean a very forward question?

skye and myself: *now quite curious as to what the question is* Go ahead. Really. *both giving him a smile of encouragement*

guy: Well... are you...I mean to say... are the two of you... *insert more rambling and false starts here*...

...do the two of you love each other?

Now I have to admit out of all the things I thought he was going to say that wasn't one of them. Skye and I look at each other and we both know there were two options. A) We explain to him what is going on by saying something like "No, were sisters" and clear up the whole issue. But quite frankly Option A isn't half as fun as option B and we both know it. So embracing each other, we look up at him and smile and skye says:

"Yes! We love each other very much!"

guy: *looking relieved* Oh, ok. It's just that a few of us have been wondering that for a while. We were all like "are they" but we didn't know, and...but that's cool.

skye and myself: *still smiling*

guy: ...So are you from around here? Are you going to come here more?

skye: No. I live in Colorado and so I'm only here for the weekend. Though light9 is going to school down here at BYU.

guy: *so shocked he is speechless*

Poor boy, I knew that we had completely confused him and I could almost see him trying to think what we had just told him through. See he thought that we were lesbians and now skye had just told him that I went to BYU. For those of you who don't understand why that matters then let me explain something to you: BYU is a religious school. A Mormon religious school. It is hard and only the best and the brightest get in. And, more importantly for this discussion, you can't be gay. Mormons are just as orthodox as the Catholics in this respect. You can see where the contradiction lies.

guy: *still quite confused*

us: *still smiling*

guy: ... *finally able to speak* Well... you must not tell many people there.

skye: Well not really. *amending what she has said so that we didn't actually lie* I mean we do tell anyone who asks.

me: *jumping in* But not many people ask. I mean they don't expect this sort of thing up there.

You will notice everything we said was true...[star wars quote] from a certain point of view [/star wars quote]. After all, people don't expect me to have a sister who's that much older than me (most people think that she's my mother). And we do tell anyone who asks that we're sister.

guy: So are you going back to Provo tonight?

skye: Nope, we're staying at the Red Lion Hotel tonight. *puts her arm around me, and we smile at each other. This is too funny!*

guy: Wow -- I'm jealous!

Then it was our turn to play, and soon it was 12:30 (we stayed and played late with the manager and some of his friends) and we had to go back to the hotel.

And so as we left I took skye's hand in mine and we frolicked into the night.
